PaxVax is a fully integrated pharmaceutical company focused on development, manufacture and commercialization of innovative vaccines against infectious diseases. The company manufactures and markets Vivotif, an FDA‑approved oral typhoid vaccine licensed in 27 countries including the US and major European markets. It has vaccines in clinical development for cholera (Vaxchora), anthrax, HIV and hepatitis A. Led by CEO Nima Farzan, PaxVax operates R&D and GMP manufacturing facilities in San Diego, California and Bern, Switzerland. The company received a $105M investment in which an affiliate of Cerberus Capital Management acquired a majority economic interest. Cerberus has committed to support PaxVax’s specialty vaccine focus, R&D strategy and efforts to expand vaccine access in the developing world. PaxVax is a fully integrated specialty vaccine company whose portfolio includes a licensed oral typhoid vaccine (Vivotif®) and vaccine candidates for cholera (PXVX0200, in Phase 3), anthrax, HIV and H5N1, with research programs in malaria, dengue, rabies and HSV. The company acquired the FDA‑approved Vivotif product from Crucell Switzerland AG and has commenced commercial operations related to that acquisition. PaxVax is preparing for regulatory review and the anticipated global launch of its cholera vaccine candidate, PXVX0200. To support development and commercialization, PaxVax closed new financing and is supported by grants and contracts from NIH (NIAID, DAIDS, DMID), the Wellcome Trust and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The company previously has raised $80 million from equity investors including Ignition Ventures, Ignition Growth Capital and the Blue Haven Initiative. PaxVax was founded in 2007 and is headquartered in Redwood City, California, with R&D and GMP facilities in San Diego and a newly acquired facility near Bern, Switzerland. PaxVax develops and commercializes vaccines against infectious diseases using a proprietary adenoviral-based platform designed to enable rapid development of oral vaccines. Its lead candidate, PXVX0200 (CVD 103-HgR), is a single-dose oral cholera vaccine that has initiated a Phase 3 clinical program and has received Fast Track designation from the U.S. FDA. The Phase 3 program is an international pivotal study of approximately 3,000 participants, including cholera challenge, safety, and immunogenicity studies in the U.S., Australia, and Canada for use as a traveler’s vaccine. PaxVax’s pipeline also includes an H5N1 pandemic influenza vaccine entering Phase 2 and vaccines entering Phase 1 in HIV and anthrax under NIH contracts. The company highlights easier manufacture, storage, distribution, administration, and delivery of its oral candidates versus conventional injectables. PaxVax was founded in 2007 and is headquartered in Menlo Park, Calif., with R&D laboratories and a licensed GMP production facility in San Diego, Calif.
