  • Bold

    Participated · Equity · Oct 2025

Bold is a Colombia-based fintech focused on equipping small and medium-sized enterprises with a suite of digital payment tools, including POS terminals, QR-code payment software, and online business bank accounts. The company recently enhanced its regional footprint by acquiring VendeMás, the payment facilitator previously owned by Niubiz, as part of its entry strategy into Peru. With the new capital, Bold plans to deepen its operations in the Peruvian market over the next year and is actively evaluating expansion opportunities in Ecuador, Chile, and various Central American countries. Co-founder and CEO José Vélez emphasized that the fresh resources will accelerate product enhancement and geographic growth. Financially, the company has now secured two sizeable rounds in quick succession: a $50 million Series C earlier in 2024 and the current $40 million round. Although specific revenue or user metrics were not disclosed, the repeated backing of General Atlantic signals strong investor confidence. Bold’s overarching goal is to become a leading payments infrastructure provider for SMEs across Latin America.

Founded in 2018, it is the primary supplier and operating system for over 40,000 corner stores. The platform carries about 3,000 SKUs and reached 10,000 orders per day in the third quarter, and the company reported sevenfold revenue growth in the last 12 months. To date Chiper has raised more than $65 million, including a $12 million Series A in October 2020 and a recent $53 million Series B. The new capital will support expansion into Brazil, add roughly 2,000 products, launch embedded financial services, and grow the team toward 650 employees by year end. Chiper aims to reach 100,000 stores within a broader Latin American market of more than 3.7 million corner stores that together generated about $330 billion in annual revenue (projected to approach $500 billion). Chiper operates an e-commerce platform enabling independent corner stores in Latin America to grow their businesses by digitizing ordering and supply. The company has built a large branded network of digitized corner stores and serves over 3,000 customers across Colombia and Mexico. Chiper currently has a presence in Colombia and Mexico and plans to expand further within Mexico and into Brazil. The company aims to increase its active user base to over 30,000 users, targeting roughly 5% market penetration by the end of 2021. Leadership is led by CEO Jair Bonilla with co‑founders COO Oscar Sarria and CRO Carolina Garcia.
