Broncus develops diagnostic and therapeutic medical devices focused on lung disease. Its core product portfolio includes the Archimedes Virtual Bronchoscopic Navigation System (combining fused fluoroscopy, real-time bronchoscopy and virtual bronchoscopic navigation for 3D access to nodules), LungPoint systems and the FleXNeedle. The Archimedes System has FDA, CE and NMPA clearances and broad global patent protection; the InterVapor System holds a CE mark. The company plans to use new funding to expand markets and technology across lung cancer, emphysema and other lung diseases, including expanded global adoption and clinical studies. Planned work includes expanded commercial adoption and global clinical studies of InterVapor (BTVA), U.S. and European studies of the EMPOWER RF Catheter (BRFA), and further development of next‑generation RF technology to precisely treat lung nodules. Broncus also recently signed a strategic partnership with Olympus Europa to exclusively distribute Archimedes Planner and Archimedes Lite in several European countries. Broncus Medical develops diagnostic and therapeutic technologies to enable bronchoscopic access to nodules anywhere in the lung and to treat major lung diseases including lung cancer and emphysema. Its product portfolio includes the Archimedes System and Planner, LungPoint Virtual Bronchoscopic Navigation and Planner, and the FleXNeedle. The company combines fused fluoroscopy, real-time bronchoscopy, and virtual bronchoscopic navigation to provide a three-dimensional view within the lungs and improve accuracy of nodule access. Broncus says the funds will support continued product development and execution of clinical trials to validate performance for total lung navigation and tumor access. Ongoing studies include the EAST 2 post-market study, enrolling up to 200 patients, plus multiple feasibility studies of investigational bronchoscopic treatment technologies. The company was founded in 2012. Broncus Technologies is a Mountain View, Calif. medical-device company that develops implantable devices to treat emphysema and other lung diseases. The company raised $38 million in a seventh-round financing intended to bring it to breakeven. In July it also secured $10 million in debt financing from Western Technology Investment. Broncus previously filed for a $75 million IPO last November but withdrew the filing in June amid a weak lifesciences market and is considering a second run when conditions improve. Management plans to release two cancer-fighting products by mid-2009 to help bolster the business and timing for a future public offering. Historically the company had previously raised $80 million prior to this round.
