  • Sight Diagnostics

    Led · Series D · Aug 2020

Sight Diagnostics builds the OLO, an FDA 510(k)-cleared blood analyzer that uses machine vision and on-device machine learning to deliver a complete blood count in minutes. The company replaces the human microscope observer with automated imaging and runs its models on the device rather than in the cloud. Sight has developed automated sample-preparation breakthroughs and has applied for 20 patents, eight of which have been issued. It has placed devices in hospitals worldwide to collect data and explore additional diagnostic applications, including signals related to COVID-19 severity. The company employs about 100 people, mainly in R&D, and maintains offices in London and New York. With the recent funding it is focusing on expanding in the U.S. market and refining its product beyond the initial complete blood count offering. Sight Diagnostics has developed OLO, a desktop machine that analyzes cartridges loaded with drops of patient blood and uses machine learning and computer vision to produce a complete blood count from a finger‑prick sample. The company positions OLO as a lab‑grade, point‑of‑care alternative to venous draws and central labs, with results available in minutes and a user interface intended for non‑professionals. OLO received CE Mark registration following a 287‑person clinical trial and the company launched the device last summer; it has signed a distribution agreement in Italy and expects customers across multiple European countries this year. Sight is pursuing additional regulatory work in the U.S., having completed U.S. clinical trials and submitted data to the FDA as part of a 510(k) pathway and subsequent CLIA waiver plans. R&D funds will be used to expand the menu of tests for the OLO platform and to tailor procedures and algorithms for use cases such as neonatal screening, oncology, pediatrics, and blood‑disease diagnosis. The company, founded in 2011, has raised more than $50M to date and will use the new capital to accelerate commercial expansion and regulatory efforts. Sight Diagnostics develops OLO, a compact desktop point-of-care blood diagnostics system that uses patented sample digitization and proprietary machine-vision algorithms to produce lab-quality complete blood counts from a finger-prick. The device analyzes single-use cartridges loaded with drops of patient blood and is designed to be simple enough for non-specialist clinic staff to operate. The company obtained a CE Mark after a 287-person clinical study at Shaare Zedek Medical Center and says it compared OLO against a Sysmex XN lab analyzer. Sight has been working on OLO for more than eight years, is conducting a US clinical trial across three sites aiming for 500+ participants using eight instruments, and is pursuing 510(k) FDA clearance followed by a CLIA waiver. Financially, Sight confirms $25 million in equity financing across Series A and B and is in the process of raising a Series C. The team previously commercialized a malaria test (Parasight), selling more than 600,000 tests, and plans to expand OLO as a multi-test platform with each additional assay undergoing independent clinical validation.

  • DayTwo

    Led · Series B · Oct 2019

DayTwo develops a precision nutrition solution combining gut microbiome profiling, AI that predicts blood sugar responses to foods, and dedicated virtual care. The company focuses on metabolic diseases—diabetes, prediabetes, and clinical obesity—and sells programs to employers, health plans, and health systems. DayTwo says it holds the world's largest and richest proprietary gut microbiome dataset and notes NIH citation of its scientific research. Participants in DayTwo programs report sustained clinical outcomes, including more than a 1.4-point reduction in A1C, a 69% improvement in Time in Range, an average 18-pound weight loss, a 3.3-point reduction in BMI, and significant reduction or elimination of medications. DayTwo announced $37 million in new funding to accelerate expansion of its chronic disease solutions and virtual care offerings, bringing total funding to $85 million. The company plans to apply its science and IP to improve outcomes for other diseases in addition to metabolic conditions. Leadership changes announced alongside the financing include the appointment of David Henderson as CEO and John Watts, Jr. to the board. DayTwo operates a microbiome human discovery platform with an actionable product on the market that delivers personalized dietary interventions. Its platform is built on a large full-shotgun database of gut-microbiome profiles worldwide and follows a food-as-medicine approach based on research by Professors Eran Segal and Eran Elinav at the Weizmann Institute, published in Cell in 2015. The Cell paper demonstrated how the gut microbiome together with clinical and personal parameters can enable personalized dietary interventions to balance post-meal glucose response. DayTwo has offices in Tel Aviv and the San Francisco Bay Area and is led by CEO and Founder Lihi Segal. The company has 85 employees. It is currently expanding its Series B financing with strategic investments from Longliv Ventures, Cathay Innovation and Samsung NEXT. DayTwo offers a glycemic control solution that uses gut microbiome profiling and other clinical parameters to deliver a food-as-medicine approach. Its product provides actionable insights into how individuals metabolize specific foods and meals to help balance blood sugar. The approach is based on research from the Weizmann Institute published in Cell in 2015. DayTwo reported tens of thousands of individual customers, hundreds of providers in its clinician network, and employs 75 people; it also has a strategic partnership with Clalit to offer its solution to 4.5 million members. Ongoing clinical and research partners include the Weizmann Institute, the Israel Diabetes Association, Joslin Diabetes Center, Janssen (Johnson & Johnson), and the Mayo Clinic. The company plans to use new funding to accelerate U.S. go-to-market efforts and to develop a new generation of products and services for metabolic and gastrointestinal conditions. DayTwo sends users at-home test kits to perform genetic analysis of their gut microbiome and delivers actionable, personalized dietary and exercise recommendations via a mobile app. The consumer product is available for pre-order, with kits priced at $299 and shipping planned by the end of July. The company also plans to offer its platform as a service to provider organizations to support patients for whom nutrition is especially important. Its technology is based on five years of research by Prof. Eran Segal and Dr. Eran Elinav at the Weizmann Institute of Science. DayTwo is already collaborating with the Mayo Clinic on a research project that will be expanded with the new funding. To date the startup has raised $17 million in total.
