Overview

Lundbeckfonden Emerge seeks to identify and initiate commercial development of scientific opportunities which it considers from its analysis have high commercial potential. The main objective is to turn scientific discoveries and early stage opportunities into commercial ventures with a maturity that allows for full venture financing. Lundbeckfonden Emerge not only offers limited financing for selected cases but also offers seasoned advice or direct participation in new ventures, as part of its unique model to optimize the outcome of the venture to the benefit of all stakeholders. Lundbeckfonden Emerge will seek to develop select projects together with founders and will take on an active role from mentoring to active project management, as is considered optimal for the outcome of the specific project. In this way, Lundbeckfonden Emerge is not a replication of traditional seed funds, but rather a unique way of using research funds to get to commercially viable projects.

    Cytoki Pharma is a private biotechnology company in Copenhagen developing synthetic, long-acting IL-22 protein therapeutics aimed at repairing epithelial damage. Its lead program is a licensed IL-22 variant (from Novo Nordisk A/S) engineered with a lipidation technology to extend pharmacologic action. The company is focused on proving concept in inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease) and plans to explore other epithelial indications such as liver injury. Preclinical data have shown promising regenerative activity, and the program is positioned to enter initial human clinical studies. Cytoki’s recent €38M financing will fund the first clinical trials and proof-of-concept studies in patients, supporting clinical and program development.

    IO Biotech is a Copenhagen-based clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing immune-modulating anti-cancer therapies built on its proprietary T-win® technology. The T-win platform enables activation of T cells that are specific for immune-suppressive molecules. Its pipeline includes two lead compounds targeting IDO and PD-L1 that are in clinical development and several additional candidates in pre-clinical phases. The company is led by founder and CEO Mai-Britt Zocca, PhD. IO Biotech intends to use proceeds from its recent financing to fund clinical trials across early and late-stage immuno-oncology programs, including a large randomized trial of IO102 and IO103 with anti-PD-1 monoclonal antibodies in metastatic melanoma. The U.S. FDA granted breakthrough therapy designation on December 15, 2020 for the IO102/IO103 plus anti-PD-1 combination in unresectable or metastatic melanoma.
