Headstrong Project delivers confidential, cost-free in-person and telehealth treatment programs for PTSD and military-related trauma to veterans, service members, and their families across 12 states and 28 markets. Founded in 2012, the organization operates a network of military-informed, trauma-trained private practice clinicians rather than relying on traditional brick-and-mortar institutions. Headstrong currently fields a roster of seven clinicians and serves roughly 1,000 clients per month, having delivered more than 70,000 clinical sessions since inception. The practice emphasizes destigmatized, evidence-based care and uses technology to expand access. Current plans described in the article include expanding national access, furthering innovation in delivery, increasing enrollment of veterans in need of long-term care, and recruiting additional local clinicians. A portion of the recent funding is earmarked to drive demand and expand services within the greater Phoenix area. Headstrong positions itself to scale access in vulnerable Chicagoland communities and to sustain long-term expansion of veteran mental health services. Founded in 2012, the practice emphasizes confidential, bureaucracy-free access and claims demonstrated improvements in sleep, family communication, and reductions in substance abuse among clients. Headstrong launched a telehealth pilot amid the COVID-19 crisis in 2020 and is using recent funding to improve monitoring and evaluation of that program. The organization plans to expand care by launching two new program markets and recruiting, onboarding, and vetting 20 additional clinicians.
