Fluential holds six patents in speech recognition and natural language processing, with nine additional patents pending, and it received angel funding in 2011. Its first consumer application—targeting digital health, wellness, and weight management—was slated for release in Spring 2014. The company positions its technology to run on smartphones, smartwatches, Google Glass and other wearables and faces competition from Siri/Nuance and other voice platforms. Nant Health’s investment is intended to support Fluential’s efforts to voice-enable consumer health across devices.
