- Equaship
Participated · Equity · Oct 2011
EquaShip, led by entrepreneur Ron Wiener, aims to challenge UPS, DHL and FedEx by routing final-mile deliveries through the U.S. Postal Service and a network of third-party carriers. The company has integrated with order-management platforms and says it appears as the “fourth carrier option” on the shipping screens of more than two million e-commerce sellers. EquaShip does not own trucks or planes; it relies on partners such as Blue Package Deliveries and existing carrier networks. It advertises 26–77% savings versus major carriers' ground retail rates and is competing primarily on price. The startup raised $900,000 in June from backers including Newell Rubbermaid and angel investors in Seattle and San Francisco. EquaShip is targeting profitability by the end of this year.
- Shipwire, a CEVA Logistics Company
Participated · Equity · Jul 2011
Shipwire provides a SaaS platform that lets online merchants access and manage inventory across a network of warehouses in the U.S., Canada and Europe to cut shipping costs and delivery times. Its offering includes Shipwire Anywhere, which lets sellers route orders and manage inventory stored in any location (warehouse, garage, office closet, retail store, storage unit). The company charges for label printing and otherwise offers the inventory and order management software as a service. Shipwire is used by customers such as Rovio to ship Angry Birds merchandise. The company says the new funding will be used to expand its global warehouse network into new countries and to fund additional product development. eBay and Newell Rubbermaid joined as strategic investors, and executives from Rubbermaid and eBay joined the advisory board while Ivan Hoffman, former president of FedEx Ground, joined the board of directors.
