  • Fuel Games

    Led · Seed · Jul 2018

Fuel Games builds blockchain-based games and a developer platform called Apollo to enable decentralised, tradable in-game items. Its headline game, Gods Unchained, launched a pre-sale as the company positions itself as the world’s first blockchain eSport. The studio previously released Etherbots on Ethereum, which generated over $1M in in-game item sales within two weeks and saw single items trade for up to $18,000. Fuel Games aims to demonstrate that decentralising in-game economies is an evolution in gaming and to provide a seamless user experience that removes typical cryptocurrency friction. The founders, James and Robbie Ferguson, say the platform will let game developers integrate blockchain at scale and give players true ownership and secondary-market tradability. Raised capital is being used to develop games and build the Apollo platform to support wider adoption.

Fantom announced Sonic, a new chain described as a layer‑1 that connects to Ethereum via a layer‑2 bridge to access ETH and other assets while offering low cost, high scalability and speed. The project will introduce a native token called S and a governance vote approved a 1:1 migration path from FTM to S. Fantom said the Sonic launch will coincide with creation of the Sonic Foundation to handle governance and treasury and Sonic Labs to drive dApp growth, partnerships and user adoption. The team positions Sonic to support high‑throughput use cases including real‑world assets, perpetual DEXs, payments, trading and transaction‑heavy games. Fantom has also completed a fresh financing to support the Sonic effort, as described in its announcement. Fantom Foundation is a Seoul, Korea-based blockchain platform developing a DAG-based smart contract protocol. The platform is designed to process up to 300,000 transactions per second at nearly no cost, enabling faster cryptocurrency transactions than traditional payment systems like Visa and Mastercard. Fantom intends to use the $40M it raised to build and advance its platform. Its DAG-based protocol aims to enable businesses and consumers to execute everyday transactions more rapidly across all sectors. Backers named in the raise include Hyperchain Capital, Signum Capital, 8Decimal, Arrington XRP Capital, Bibox Fund, Link VC, Nirvana Capital and JRR Crypto. The funding was reported by FinSMEs on 22/06/2018.

  • Fantom

    Participated · Equity · Jun 2018

Fantom is a high-performance, scalable, and secure smart-contract platform designed to overcome limitations of previous-generation blockchains. It uses an aBFT consensus called Lachesis that enables low time-to-finality (around 1 second), EVM compatibility, and cross-chain interoperability so developers can port Ethereum-based apps quickly. Transactions on Fantom complete within about 1 second and cost only a fraction of a cent. The project is fully permissionless, decentralized, open-source, and its code is available on GitHub, with the foundation emphasizing transparency. A recent platform update, Go-Opera, improved time-to-finality, tripled P2P synchronization speed, and made node synchronization more efficient. Fantom positions itself for a wide range of use cases—payments, secure storage of sensitive records, supply-chain tracking—and says it will continue developing to remain fast, transparent, and secure. FANTOM is a DAG-based smart contract platform that aims to deliver near-instant, low-cost cryptocurrency transactions by dramatically increasing throughput. The project claims its protocol can process up to 300,000 transactions per second, far above many existing blockchains and traditional payment networks. FANTOM emphasizes decentralization and intends to enable everyday cryptocurrency use across consumers and businesses. The team is pursuing strategic partnerships and deployments across sectors including e-commerce, IoT, food tech, telecom, banking and financial services, insurance, electricity, and real estate. Major strategic partners named in the announcement include the Korea Food-Tech Association, Oracle, and SBCK (a SoftBank Korea subsidiary). To fund development, FANTOM raised $40 million from a group of strategic partners and investors.

  • Theta EdgeCloud

Participated · Initial Coin Offering · Feb 2018

Sliver.tv builds Theta, an ERC20-compliant cryptocurrency and content-delivery system that uses untapped bandwidth from idle user machines to serve higher-quality esports streams to local viewers. Fans earn Theta tokens for activities like daily logins and can use tokens to gift streamers, unlock premium content, or buy virtual items; since launch over one million Theta tokens have been earned and gifted by more than 980,000 users to two dozen top streamers. The Theta ERC20 tokens launched in December 2017 and the Sliver.tv platform attracted over four million visits in January. Sliver.tv says the approach will lower content-delivery costs for publishers and let creators capture more ad revenue. Theta Labs, Sliver.tv’s subsidiary, plans to launch a decentralized, user-powered mesh streaming platform in late 2018. The company has pursued token presales and venture financing to fund development and expansion. Sliver.tv uses patented technology to bring 360-degree views to traditional 2D PC eSports, giving viewers courtside seats and the ability to change perspective. Viewers can jump between 360-degree camera locations placed inside game maps to observe battles as third-party spectator positions, and the company is experimenting with more interactive camera-switching during live events. The platform supports mobile, PC and virtual reality; the company said about twenty percent of spectators at a recent event watched from VR. The 16-person team signed to stream a package of 14 eSports tournaments, and one recent tournament brought 340k viewers across supported platforms. Sliver.tv is focusing on Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and League of Legends and plans to launch a Watch & Win virtual-betting feature in July using in-game coins. The company closed a $9.8 million Series A led by Danhua Capital with participation from Heuristic Capital Partners, ZP Capital, DCM, Sierra Ventures, The VR Fund, Samsung Next Fund and Sony Innovation Fund. Sliver.tv builds technology that turns 2D eSports title streams into immersive spherical footage viewable on VR headsets and mobile devices using a network of “virtual cameras.” The company records full 360-degree environments from games’ spectator modes and stitches footage for playback. At launch it hosts content from major eSports titles including Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, League of Legends and Dota 2, whose combined audience on existing networks is roughly 140 million viewers. Sliver.tv announced an early beta for mobile VR on iOS and Android and plans support for PSVR, Gear VR, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. Because of intensive stitching and data work, the platform currently offers recorded footage and clips rather than true live streams, though the team is working to improve real-time rendering and upload. Financially, the Cupertino-based stealth company disclosed a $6.2 million Seed financing to support product development and expansion.
