  Cubic Motion develops computer vision and real-time animation technology for the digital entertainment sector. Cubic Motion is a Daresbury Science & Innovation Campus (UK)-based company that specialises in converting data streams, such as video footage, into 3D facial animation for the video game, TV and film markets. The company provides animation services focused on translating detailed facial performance into digital characters. It received a £100,000 Grant for Research and Development to pursue a new technology approach aimed at enabling real-time transfer of extremely detailed facial movements from video to 3D characters at production quality. The planned solution is intended to dramatically improve workflow and efficiency in facial animation and enable new products. The work is framed as contributing significantly to the regional supply chain for graphics techniques.

  Cable-Sense is a Lancaster, UK-based network cabling infrastructure company that has developed an intelligent infrastructure management system for cable networks. Its system allows organizations to improve management of their cable networks, reducing energy, capital expenditure and operations costs while improving utilization of assets. The company was founded in 2004 by John Kelly and Tony Peyton and is led by CEO Geoff Butcher. Cable-Sense has worked closely with the School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the University of Manchester to bring its products to market. It plans to expand overseas and aimed to triple its turnover by 2014. The company recently raised equity funding and intends to use the capital to hire additional staff in sales, marketing and product development. CableSense develops a patent‑protected technology for non‑invasive interrogation of the physical layer of networked infrastructure, enabling cable status and connectivity to be determined without disrupting connections or information integrity. Its products are cable scanners intended for use in telecommunications rooms and office server environments to automate management of large‑scale structured cabling systems. The company said it will use the award to accelerate delivery of its proposition to market. Financially, the article notes a recent £500K equity investment from MTI Partners via the UMIP Premier Fund. In January 2010 CableSense was awarded a £213K Grant for Research and Development by the Northwest Regional Development Agency. The grant is part of the GRAND programme within the UK Government's Solutions for Business support, funded by the European Regional Development Fund and the NWDA.
