LodgeLink operates a digital B2B workplace travel marketplace that links hotels, remote camps and lodges, ground transportation, airlines, duty-of-care providers and other services with companies seeking crew travel solutions. The platform facilitates workforce logistics management, provides visibility and cost control, and creates digital efficiencies for accounts payable and consolidated crew-travel payments. LodgeLink is undergoing continued development to add mobile apps, GPS mapping, automated reporting, predictive analytics, integration with key supplier software and direct links to air and ground transportation. The company reports rapid scaling: it lists more than 2,000 hotels and lodge properties representing over 200,000 rooms and serves more than 500 companies in Canada and the United States. Despite weaker North American travel volumes during the COVID-19 pandemic, LodgeLink has seen year-over-year increases in monthly booking volumes since July 2020, with total bookings running approximately two times higher than the comparative period in 2019. LodgeLink is a wholly owned subsidiary of Black Diamond Group Limited and will base expanded technical operations in Calgary to support customers in Canada, the United States and Australia.

The financing deepens AltaML's strategic ties with a long-time client and provides warrant-based equity participation for VerticalScope.

  • Lighthouse Labs

    Led · Equity · Oct 2019

Lighthouse Labs runs immersive 12-week Web Development Bootcamps that train participants with little to no prior experience in industry-relevant full-stack web development. It operates a satellite campus in Calgary and graduated 30 students from its cohorts in 2018. The company reports more than 1,500 grads across the country and an average 93% employment rate of candidates walking into a new developer role within 120 days of graduation. With Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund (OCIF) support of up to $300,000 over three years, Lighthouse Labs plans to expand its Calgary programming to reach 150 graduates annually by 2021 and to work with local companies to meet coding talent needs. The article cites a forecast that by 2021 at least 300 software developers are expected to graduate with 270 finding placements in tech jobs or further post-secondary training within six months. Lighthouse Labs positions itself to help Calgarians pivot careers and supply junior web developers to support Calgary’s digital transformation.

  • Attabotics

    Led · Equity · Dec 2018

Attabotics builds densely packed vertical storage structures that use robots and AI to locate and retrieve items, enabling fulfillment in roughly 15% of the standard warehouse footprint by building up. The approach is designed to enable denser, urban fulfillment centers closer to customers. In September the company began commercial rollout of Attabot 2022, a robot with a flexible payload accommodating bins up to 16 inches tall at 100 lb (a 25% increase over the prior robot) and featuring an ultra-lean modular design with 60% fewer parts. Attabotics has drawn traction with customers, including a signed deal with the Department of Defense, and is expanding beyond its engineering core while cautiously growing headcount from around 300 and recruiting roughly 30 roles. Founded in 2015, the company has raised $165.1 million to date and is using recent funding to move from making the product work to scaling deployments and business execution. The company positions its solution as delivering significant cost and space savings compared with traditional warehouse robotics. Attabotics develops a "3D" storage and fulfillment system featuring wheeled carts capable of moving on X, Y and Z axes, a design inspired by ant colonies. The robots operate alongside human workers who pick, place, and ship inventory. Its technology is deployed in six locations in North America and is used by food, B2B, and retail customers, including a deal with Nordstrom. The company plans to use the new funding to speed commercial deployment and to invest in creation of new technologies. Attabotics announced a $50M Series C led by the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board, bringing total funding to $82.7M after a $25M raise last July. CEO/CTO Scott Gravelle said the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated interest from retailers and brands looking to modernize their supply chains. Attabotics is the world’s first 3D robotics supply chain system for modern commerce. The company replaces traditional warehouse rows and aisles with a patented vertical storage structure and robotic shuttles that move in X, Y, and Z axes to store and deliver goods. Its all-in-one system can reduce a retailer’s required warehouse needs by 85%, enabling fulfillment closer to cities and use of existing back-of-house capacity. Attabotics has been adopted by major brands and retailers across apparel, food & beverage, and home goods, and operates from Calgary, Alberta with fulfillment centers across the United States and Canada. The new funding will support new hires, scaling manufacturing operations, and the development of new technologies. Attabotics has raised $32.7 million in funding to date. ATTAbotics is a Calgary-based robotics intralogistics company that designs and manufactures automated storage and retrieval systems to store, access, and move warehoused goods. Founded in 2016, the company positions its systems as a disruptive solution for e-commerce and exports its technology worldwide. The Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund (OCIF) has committed up to $4.5 million to help ATTAbotics scale manufacturing in Calgary. That funding will support construction of two production lines (or "nodes") at a new facility in the YYC Global Logistics Park. The first node is planned to enter production in 2019 and the second in 2020. If business development proceeds as projected, ATTAbotics intends to build a new corporate headquarters and research campus at the site, and the expansion is expected to create about 150 full-time positions plus 15 construction jobs.
