- Medical Departures
Participated · Series A · Mar 2016
Medical Departures is a medical service marketplace that allows patients to find, compare and book medical appointments around the globe. Its online platforms, Medical Departures and Dental Departures, let patients compare photos, prices, real patient reviews, videos and medical certifications 24/7. The company offers access to over 5,000 doctors and dentists across 33 countries and has served more than 50,000 global patients. Established in 2014 by CEO Paul McTaggart and based in Bangkok, Thailand, Medical Departures intends to accelerate growth in destinations such as Southeast Asia. In March 2016 it completed a $2.5M Series A financing to support that expansion.
- Eventpop
Participated · Seed · Feb 2016
Event Pop is a two-year-old Thailand-based digital ticketing startup that helps event organizers with ticketing and marketing. Its platform offers access control, cashless payments, data collection and management, plus monitoring and analytics. The company's mobile app functions as an event-discovery and booking tool, an entry ticket and—where supported—an NFC-powered cashless payments method. To date it has handled over 3,000 events, including gigs, festivals, live shows, sports and business seminars. Financially, Event Pop has completed a Series A of over $2 million and had previously raised $500,000. The company plans to invest in new service areas and pursue expansion into parts of Southeast Asia and East Asia, potentially targeting markets such as Indonesia, and will compete with players like Peatix, EventNook and Eventbrite. Event Pop is a Bangkok-based event management and ticketing startup that combines ticketing with ongoing event campaigns and user engagement tools. The company helps event promoters run continuous campaigns rather than siloed, one-off activities. Founded in 2015, Event Pop says it has managed more than 100,000 ticket sales for over 300 events, which the CEO describes as roughly two percent market share in six months. The team argues incumbent players in Thailand have gone stale and that new technology can disrupt the market. Event Pop is focused on the Thai market for now but plans regional expansion soon with partners in Southeast Asia and Japan. Its recent $500,000 seed raise and existing backers are intended to accelerate growth amid a projected tenfold increase this year.
- MoneySmart
Participated · Series A · Oct 2015
MoneySmart combines editorial content with online product‑comparison tools to help consumers choose mortgages, credit cards and other financial products. The site emphasizes approachable, entertaining personal‑finance content—what the founder calls “BuzzFeed meets personal finance”—alongside its comparison functionality. Founded six years ago and headquartered in Singapore, MoneySmart expanded into Indonesia last year via the acquisition of KreditAja. Its sites now record roughly 750,000 visits per month in Singapore, 650,000 in Indonesia and about one million unique users combined. The company plans cautious, localized expansion and intends to enter two new markets next year, with the Philippines, Hong Kong, Thailand and Malaysia under consideration. MoneySmart also aims to integrate services with Singapore Press Holdings following the investment, and to explore partnerships with SPH’s car and property classifieds.
- WearYouWant
Led · Series A · Aug 2014
WearYouWant is a fashion retail marketplace that enables offline vendors to set up shops and manage customer orders. The site carries about 450 brands and 12,500 items and reports "tens of thousands" of active customers. Founded in 2011, the company says it experienced triple-digit growth over the prior six months despite political unrest in Thailand. To address low credit-card penetration, WearYouWant offers cash-on-delivery and partners with CJ Korea and KWC Logistics for fulfillment. Deliveries currently take two to five days, and the company plans to introduce next-day delivery to better compete with regional players. Competitors named in the article include Lazada and Zalora, and the company is positioning itself against logistics investments such as the Singpost-Alibaba joint venture.
