- Snappy Shopper
Led · Equity · Jul 2021
Snappy Group comprises Snappy Shopper and Hungrrr, offering a local grocery home-delivery platform and a white-label hospitality online-ordering solution. Snappy Shopper, launched in Dundee in December 2017, connects consumers via an app and website to order from local convenience stores for delivery by the stores' own drivers in as little as 30 minutes, while Hungrrr (launched in 2016) serves restaurants, hotels and stadia. The group partners with major retailers and has agreements with several regional Co-op’s, Nisa and SPAR; Hungrrr counts clients such as Hilton, BrewDog and Subway. The business currently serves 1,540 business partners and more than 1 million users across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, with annualised gross merchandise volume of £132m. Snappy positions itself to help local retailers capture higher online basket spend while competing with anonymous "dark stores". It is integrating with PayPoint One EPOS to extend click-and-collect and delivery capabilities into a broader retail network. Snappy Shopper provides a platform that enables independent convenience stores and smaller chains to sell online and deliver products, offering promotions directly to customers' mobile phones and insights into buying behaviour. The platform is already in use by a number of stores. Led by Mike Callachan, Alan Reid and Mark Steven, the company helps smaller retailers run online storefronts and targeted promotions. Snappy Shopper raised a seven-figure seed funding round (exact amount undisclosed) to support growth. It intends to use the funds to accelerate expansion throughout the UK and to build its team, creating 21 jobs over the next year. The round included Kelvin Capital, Mercia, the Scottish Investment Bank and the management team as backers.
