  • SiftMed

    Participated · Seed · Jul 2026

Founded in 2020 and based in St. John’s, SiftMed builds AI-powered software that ingests, structures and analyzes thousands of pages of medical records to surface supporting evidence for medical claims reviews. The platform aims to speed decisions that can take human reviewers hours to days down to as little as two hours, depending on the review type, while reducing missed facts. SiftMed’s 30-person team includes clinicians and former Verafin staff, and the company’s founders include CEO Holly Hill and co-founder Dr. Jeremie Larouche. Staircase Ventures has highlighted strong commercial traction, saying SiftMed is more than doubling revenue every six months. The startup has raised nearly CAD $11 million to date and plans to use its latest CAD $5 million seed round to expand its product reach and pursue a larger Series A within 12 to 18 months.

  • CoLab Software

    Participated · Series C · Nov 2025

Founded in 2017, CoLab Software builds EngineeringOS, a cloud workspace that lets engineers run design reviews, annotate 2D/3D files, and apply AI agents to improve product quality. Its first agent, AutoReview, launched in June and already has more than 47,000 engineers on its waitlist, while early customers such as Ford, Lockheed Martin, GE Appliances, and Schneider Electric are using the core platform today. Management says these capabilities enable customers to shrink design cycles from months to hours and are driving seven-figure annual contracts. The company reports it is on track to nearly triple revenue in 2025, reflecting strong demand for AI in engineering workflows. CoLab plans to roll out additional AI agents, deepen integrations with other engineering software, and announce several strategic partnerships over the next 12 months. The platform also addresses a looming retirement-driven knowledge gap by capturing expert rationale that can be reused by future engineers.

  • Sparrow BioAcoustics

    Participated · Equity · Oct 2025

Sparrow BioAcoustics is a Canadian medical-technology company that has developed Stethophone, the first FDA-cleared cardiac AI platform able to detect structural and rhythmic heart anomalies directly through a smartphone without external hardware. The system employs AI phonoscopy to identify murmurs, valvular disease, atrial fibrillation, and other conditions, delivering hospital-grade assessments with consumer-grade accessibility. In the past year, approximately 40,000 patients and practitioners used Stethophone, uncovering thousands of previously undetected cardiac anomalies. Clinical validation from the University of Washington Medical Center confirmed high accuracy in detecting valvular disease and atrial fibrillation, and additional evaluations are underway at several major U.S. and Canadian sites. The company is actively showcasing the product at leading cardiology conferences such as TCT and the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions. Fresh capital is earmarked to scale U.S. hospital deployments, sustain product momentum, and support growth initiatives. The recent $10 million raise marks a key milestone in financing Sparrow’s expansion and continued R&D efforts.

  • Retellio

    Led · Equity · Dec 2024

Retellio transforms customer call recordings into weekly 30-minute, insight-rich podcasts that combine real call snippets with AI-powered summarization to surface actionable feedback. The product targets founders and leaders at B2B companies who record large volumes of customer conversations but lack time to sift through them. Retellio says it can distill over 100 hours of conversations into a single 30-minute episode, preserving context and the customer voice. The company serves a range of customers from early-stage startups to established enterprises. Retellio positions its offering as a decision-making engine to help leaders make faster, customer-informed choices. The team includes co-founders Brent Pretty and Andrea King, who bring Verafin experience in AI automation and startup leadership.

  • CoLab

    Participated · Series B · May 2024

CoLab offers a cloud-based collaboration platform that lets engineering teams review design files, capture and track feedback, and document issues from a single dashboard. Its tools integrate with enterprise systems like product lifecycle management and allow controlled sharing with suppliers while keeping select information private. Teams at Ford, Johnson Controls and Schneider Electric use CoLab to streamline design reviews and reduce administrative overhead. CoLab operates on a software-as-a-service model and stores customer design data such as 3D models and engineering drawings in the cloud. The company plans to introduce AI features in the coming months, using anonymized customer data to help explain design changes and automate routine tasks. Financially, revenue has doubled in the past six months, paid add-ons are planned this year and next, and the company plans to grow its headcount from 86 (mostly in its Newfoundland headquarters) to about 120 by year end. CoLab provides a web-based co-design and collaboration tool that lets teams share CAD, provide feedback with full mechanical context, and capture design data. The platform standardizes design reviews and simplifies collaboration to accelerate design cycles, drive continuous improvement, and reduce product costs and changes. Co-founded in 2017 by CEO Adam Keating and CTO Jeremy Andrews, the company is based in St John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Its tool is used by Fortune 500 customers including Johnson Controls and Hyundai Mobis. CoLab raised $17M in a Series A round led by Insight Partners and plans to use the funds to accelerate the pace of engineering innovation and reinvent how teams collaborate on mechanical design. Josh Fredberg, Managing Director at Insight Partners, joined CoLab's board in conjunction with the financing.
