Its commercial plan centers on scaling product development and broadening deployments across target industries.
- Cazena
Participated · Equity · Jul 2018
Cazena has launched the Instant™ Cloud Data Lake, which enables enterprises to create production-ready cloud data lakes instantly. The product is powered by a patented, fully automated data platform designed to accelerate digital transformation and AI/ML use cases, including predictive maintenance and customer experience. The company is led by Founder and CEO Prat Moghe and recently named Chief Revenue Officer Chad Garrett. Cazena is based in Waltham, Mass. It closed an additional round of funding of undisclosed amount, led by Michael Skok of Underscore VC, who joined the company's board. The article did not disclose operating metrics or detailed financial terms. Cazena provides a fully-managed, automated cloud Data Lake platform. Its platform delivers a SaaS-like experience for analytics and business teams while offering enterprise features for IT, embedding security, data management and 24×7 production operations. The company’s cloud Data Lakes are delivered production-ready for immediate data ingest and analytics and integrate data sources and tools via a hybrid gateway or AppCloud. Cazena’s solutions leverage cloud IaaS and PaaS from AWS, Microsoft Azure and Cloudera. Led by founder and CEO Prat Moghe, the company recently closed a $10M strategic financing and intends to use the funds to further accelerate adoption of its platform. As part of the investment Cazena has partnered with Persistent Systems to add self-service data discovery and data services for enterprises that lack data engineering or ML skills. Cazena offers an enterprise big-data-as-a-service platform that automatically provisions, optimizes and manages data-processing workflows across Hadoop, Spark and MPP SQL engines. The service aims to simplify enterprise data processing — the company says it aspires to make job setup as simple as three clicks — by choosing the right technology and infrastructure based on workload, price and latency needs. Cazena plans to charge a single fee that bundles cloud costs, support and an SLA rather than per‑gigabyte or per‑node pricing. The company, founded by former Netezza employees and led by Prat Moghe, is running beta tests with a small number of large companies but has not yet opened the service broadly. The newly announced funding will be used to build out the product technology, expand the sales force and grow partnerships. Cazena was formed by members of the Netezza team and is led by CEO Prat Moghe. The company is building a cloud-based layer or console that sits on top of big-data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark and NoSQL to simplify and accelerate access to data for lines of business. Its vision is to automate much of the backend complexity so non-experts can find and analyze data quickly — Moghe said data could be available for analysis in an hour. Cazena plans to leverage cloud elasticity and scalability while addressing challenges of moving large volumes of data to the cloud, including security and network bandwidth. The product was in development at announcement and the company expected its first solution in early 2015. Financially, Cazena came out of stealth announcing a Series A financing.
