Harm Reduction Therapeutics (HRT) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit pharmaceutical company founded in 2017 in Stamford, Conn. The organization is developing a low-cost intranasal naloxone nasal spray intended for over-the-counter (OTC) sale to expand access and prevent opioid overdose deaths. HRT plans to file a New Drug Application for the naloxone nasal spray with the FDA in 2022. Since 2018 Purdue Pharma has supported HRT with financial contributions, technical expertise, and rights to data. The company recently received Bankruptcy Court approval for up to $11 million in additional funding from Purdue to advance development. HRT notes there is no guarantee the product will complete development or gain FDA approval, and if approved the OTC product would be offered at a substantially lower retail cost than current naloxone nasal spray products.
