  Vascular Dynamics (VDI), based in Irvine, Calif., is a privately held medical device company developing endovascular, device-based solutions for heart failure patients. Its lead product, the MobiusHD, is an endovascular implant designed to reshape the carotid artery and amplify the body’s natural baroreflex to modulate the autonomic nervous system and improve heart function. Clinical evaluations of MobiusHD are in progress, including a feasibility study that recently enrolled its 30th patient. Initial 12-month clinical results have shown impressive efficacy and indicated the device provides a safe option for treating symptomatic heart failure patients. Management says the new financing will enable expansion of the pilot study and prepare the company for a forthcoming pivotal study. The company emphasizes minimally invasive, transcatheter delivery to treat patients who remain symptomatic despite medical therapy. Vascular Dynamics is a Mountain View, CA-based medical device company led by president and CEO Robert Stern that develops catheter-delivered technologies for resistant hypertension. Its lead product is the investigational MobiusHD system, which is covered by nine issued and numerous pending U.S. and international patents. The MobiusHD device recently received CE Mark but is not commercially available in the United States. The company has been accepted into the FDA’s Feasibility Study IDE program and its Expedited Access PMA program. Vascular Dynamics completed a $10.4M financing and intends to use the proceeds to conduct studies for the MobiusHD system. Vascular Dynamics develops minimally invasive medical devices for the treatment of refractive or resistant hypertension. Its core product, MobiusHD, is a catheter-delivered nitinol implant placed endovascularly at the carotid sinus designed to amplify signaling to arterial baroreceptors and thereby dilate peripheral blood vessels to reduce blood pressure. The company is conducting clinical trials in the U.S. and Europe to evaluate the safety and performance of the MobiusHD device. VDI intends to use the new funds to advance this clinical trial program in both the United States and Europe. Led by President and CEO Robert Stern, the company raised $8.425m as the first tranche of its Series B, with a planned total Series B of $16.85m. To date, Vascular Dynamics has raised a total of $23m across its Series A and Series B financings.
