Signapse, based in Guildford, UK, builds Generative AI software to translate English into photorealistic British Sign Language (BSL) video. The company emphasizes photo-realism and accuracy to increase accessibility for the Deaf community and is led by CEO Sally Chalk and CTO Ben Saunders. Over the past two years Signapse has used its AI to create 5,000 BSL train announcements daily across the UK and has delivered over 4,000 manual BSL translations for website and video clients. Clients include transport organizations such as LNER Train Stations in the UK and Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International (CVG) Airport in the US. Signapse plans to expand into the video translation market, build translation for BSL capable of translating from any English sentence into BSL, and improve the quality of its AI-generated sign language videos. The company closed a £2M seed funding round to support these initiatives.
