  • GoParity

    Participated · Equity · Jan 2023

Goparity operates a crowdlending platform that channels capital to sustainable projects across almost 20 countries on three continents. Since its 2017 founding it has lent more than €45 million through the platform and in 2024 reported €1 million in revenue for the first time. Projects financed via Goparity have helped prevent over 30,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year, supported the creation of more than 4,700 jobs and had a direct positive impact on around 86,000 people. The company combines institutional investment with retail equity crowdfunding, having twice opened rounds to its investor community via Crowdcube. In its latest community round it gathered more than 800 private investors who contributed €470,000. Goparity plans to grow its investor community mainly in Europe and Canada while reinforcing its presence in South America and other parts of the Southern Hemisphere. Founded in 2017 and based in Lisbon, Goparity runs a 'green bank' fintech marketplace that matches impact-driven projects seeking funding with people who want to invest in sustainability. The platform aims to democratize access to sustainable finance by combining institutional backers with community ownership via equity crowdfunding. Goparity has attracted more than 30,000 users across over 70 countries and reported about €10.4 million invested through its platform in 2022 while doubling turnover that year. Its reported projects have impacted nearly 200,000 people, created 7,000 jobs and helped avoid over 23,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions. The company highlights a community-led approach—€600k of the latest raise came from platform users and 69% of crowdfunding participants were aged 18–40. Goparity intends to use the new capital to expand across Europe and North America (notably Spain and Canada) and to develop new financial products. Founded in 2017 and headquartered in Lisbon, GoParity operates an impact finance platform that lets users invest in projects across sectors such as renewable energy, electric mobility, sustainable aquaculture, eco-fashion, health and education. The platform has gathered a community of 24,000 users and has funded about 200 impact projects across Europe, South America and Africa. GoParity recently launched an equity crowdfunding campaign on Crowdcube that hit its €1.2 million target in one hour and is now accepting overfunding and community shareholders. The company has raised over €1.2 million to date from private investors, including Mustard Seed Maze and Critical Software, as well as business angels, backers and prizes. After launching a new app last month, GoParity plans to expand across Europe and Canada, add new savings and investment products, and grow its team in marketing, development, risk and operations. The firm positions itself to democratize sustainable finance by inviting customers and partners to become shareholders and influence the company’s future.

  • Okra Solar

    Participated · Equity · May 2022

Okra Solar develops a mesh-based solar solution that reallocates excess energy based on proximity, prioritizing neighboring homes rather than routing power to a centralized area. The approach is intended to increase efficiency and reduce costs, which the company says is particularly important in developing markets. Okra’s product targets last-mile electrification to provide basic services such as lighting, e-cooking and water pumping and to connect more people to the digital economy. CEO Afnan Hannan has framed mesh-grids as the most efficient path to electrifying off-grid communities, while noting regulatory updates are needed to reach widescale targets. The company won TechCrunch’s 2019 Hardware Battlefield in Shenzhen, an early recognition of its technology. Financially, Okra recently closed a Series A round that will fund its efforts to bring solar power to areas that presently lack access to electricity. Okra Solar builds integrated hardware and software solutions—including a Mesh-Grid that shares power across an interconnected network of homes and a cloud-based system for monitoring, maintenance, and remote control. Its platform leverages IoT and automation to make last-mile electrification affordable and sustainable, and the company says its tech has drawn demand from utility companies. Okra is focused on deployments in Nigeria, the Philippines, Haiti, and Cambodia and works with local governments to accelerate adoption. In Nigeria its technology has been approved for subsidies from a $550 million fund assembled by the World Bank, African Development Bank, and the Rural Electrification Agency. The company plans to scale production and R&D using newly raised capital and increase headcount from 28 to 35 by year-end, with a Series A planned to expand the team to roughly 50–60 employees.

Freyr Energy is a Hyderabad-based rooftop solar company that oversees the entire process of designing, acquiring, and installing rooftop solar systems. The company sells and implements rooftop solar solutions and manages system performance end to end. According to the company press release, proceeds from the recent round will be used to expand the team, advance product development, and increase marketing. Freyr disclosed a Series B equity infusion of Rs 58 crore ($7 million) in the most recent financing. In April 2021 the startup previously received equity investments totaling Rs 18 crore from Total Carbon Neutrality Ventures, Schneider Electric Energy Access Asia, and C4D Partners. No operating metrics (revenue or user counts) were disclosed in the article. Freyr Energy uses a proprietary software environment and the SunPro+ customer app to digitalise the rooftop solar customer journey for homeowners and MSMEs. SunPro+ is designed to simplify acquisition, financing, execution and after-sales service, making ownership of a solar system simple and seamless. The company announced an equity investment of ₹18 crore to accelerate growth and enhance customer experience. Investors praised the SunPro+ platform as a key success factor that can ease rooftop customer acquisition and management. Freyr intends to scale its rooftop offering and contribute to mass-market solar adoption while creating employment opportunities within its vendor network. Strategic backers are expected to provide not only capital but global energy-sector experience to support expansion. Freyr Energy is a Hyderabad-based rooftop solar company that builds and deploys decentralized solar installations supported by a technology platform. The company says it will use new capital to improve its technology platform, expand its sales and channel partner network, and support marketing to accelerate growth in India and other major solar markets. Freyr has achieved 16X revenue growth over the last four years and has been profitable for the past two years. It has completed over 1,000 installations across 18 Indian states and serves customers in the USA, Nigeria and Ghana.
