Founded on December 29, 1995 and headquartered in Shanghai, Bank of Shanghai Co., Ltd. (“Bank of Shanghai”) is one of the leading banking institutions in Shanghai, with a branch network covering major cities in China. As at the end of the fiscal year 2012, Bank of Shanghai’s total assets had grown to RMB 816.9 billion, and is one of the top 16 largest commercial banks in China in terms of total assets. Bank of Shanghai had also been awarded “One of China’s best urban retail banks” by “The Asian Banker”. Riding on the increasingly close economic and trade cooperation between the Mainland and Hong Kong, Bank of Shanghai has established its first wholly-owned subsidiary outside the Mainland China in May 2013 through the acquisition of China Construction Bank (Asia) Finance Limited and renaming the company as Bank of Shanghai (Hong Kong) Limited (“the Bank”). The Bank is managed by a team of banking professionals originating from both Hong Kong and the Mainland. The company aims to address blood supply shortages and reduce adverse consequences associated with blood transfusions, while pursuing platelet-derived therapeutics for aging-related indications. HemaCell is advancing multiple clinical trials for its lead program and plans to use recent Series B proceeds to support those trials and pipeline development. Management has signaled plans for a pre-IPO fundraising within the year to build manufacturing bases and expand production capacity. Founder Zhu Fangfang stated the company will continue steady, market- and clinic-driven development and rapidly pursue capital market milestones to enable eventual product launches.
