  • Gumi

    Participated · Series F · Dec 2011

Gumi, presented as Japan’s leader in video games and blockchain, is pursuing a treasury-focused crypto strategy. The company believes Bitcoin’s fixed 21 million supply and its increasing global adoption offer protection against inflation and long-term value creation. Its plan involves buying and holding Bitcoin and XRP, staking assets (it has placed BTC on Babylon), and exploring blockchain integrations within its products. Prior to the latest raise, Gumi had already purchased $6.7 million worth of Bitcoin and $17 million in XRP tokens. The new capital will see another $13.5 million directed to additional BTC and XRP buys. By growing these holdings, the firm expects to benefit from price appreciation, staking yields, and synergies with strategic partner SBI Holdings, a major Ripple ally in Japan. This crypto-heavy balance-sheet approach complements Gumi’s core gaming and blockchain operations.
