- Scrollback
Participated · Seed · Nov 2014
Scrollback offers a simple, embeddable real-time chat widget integrated with mobile apps so users can follow discussions on desktop and smartphones. Users can join public discussions without being members of a site, and the company is developing a private chat function. Since launching in 2013 at Singapore incubator JFDI.Asia, Scrollback has gained 45,000 monthly active users and 700 groups. The product has been embedded on sites like Mozilla India and HasGeek and used as a networking app at conferences such as JSConf.Asia, with traction in Southeast Asia, India, and Spanish-speaking communities. Scrollback plans to monetize via a freemium model, charging for private community discussions and advanced moderation tools. The startup will use its seed funding to build mobile apps, improve its technology, and invest in marketing.
- Deep Identity
Participated · Equity · Nov 2014
Deep Identity builds identity and access-management software that helps enterprises manage staff entitlements, audit access, and meet compliance and data-governance needs. Its core product manages staff access to internal networks and target systems, with additional modules for auditing, compliance, and data management. The company counts significant customers in Asia, including the Singapore Police and Singapore Power. Deep Identity plans to expand its offering into the cloud, support BYOD (Android and iOS), and provide managed services so customers can trial services without long on‑site implementations. It intends to open a sales presence in London to push into Europe and to grow headcount from 18 to over 50 within six months. The startup raised US$470,000 to fund product development and geographic expansion. The cloud service was under development in India and expected to be available to customers in the first half of 2015.
- Inverted Edge
Participated · Equity · Feb 2013
Inverted Edge is an e-tailer that will carry a consignment of goods from 36 Asia‑Pacific designers and is positioning itself with a high-fashion brand and exclusive designs at launch. The company says it will target shoppers outside Asia who want to buy from regional designers rather than competing with mass-market global marketplaces. It has secured $1.6M (S$2M) in funding from a government-backed group of VCs. The business is preparing to launch next month, has a new warehouse in Singapore’s Lavender district and is in the process of stocking it. Inverted Edge currently has a staff of 10 in Singapore. CEO Debra Langley, previously Asia‑Pacific president for Borderlinx and former president of DKNY Jeans’ international operations, leads the company.
- Gimmie
Led · Equity · Jan 2013
Gimmie relocated from the U.S. to Singapore two years ago and builds mobile rewards, loyalty, and ad products for the Asian market. The company recently developed GimmieX, a messaging-based, real-time lead-conversion SaaS that segments website traffic by visitor type and other factors. GimmieX lets customers craft personalized messages served to site visitors with the goal of converting them into leads or customers. Gimmie discovered the product concept after partners reported difficulties converting website traffic. GimmieX is currently in beta and scheduled for an official launch next month. The company raised new funding to scale and further develop the product, and IRR plans to roll out GimmieX across many of its portfolio companies. Gimmie pivoted from offering gamer‑point redemptions to a white‑label rewards platform that lets publishers create localized campaigns and incentivized surveys. The platform provides an online dashboard for publishers to manage programs and rewards such as discounts on local restaurants or Uniqlo gift cards. The company relocated from Silicon Valley to Singapore to focus on Asian markets and is seeking publishers in Asia with large user bases. Gimmie took S$639,000 (about $522,000) in funding from a group led by WaveMaker Labs in partnership with the Singapore National Research Foundation, with Jakarta‑based Ideosource also participating. Previously the company had raised $200,000 from mobile incubator Tandem. The shift led to internal changes: co‑founder Roy Liu left and much of the U.S. staff were let go; the company now has eight employees and plans to enable resellers and launch new product features for different mobile devices in one to two months. Gimmie offers a platform for game and mobile app developers to increase in-app purchases by awarding users Gimmie points for sustained app use. Users can save and redeem points for free and discounted real-world products via an integrated marketplace. The platform lets developers determine how and when to issue points to incent actions like buying virtual goods, signing up for newsletters, or advancing levels. Developers can implement Gimmie’s in-app incentives program in a few minutes. The company launched its platform in a private beta that is open and free to app developers. Gimmie was co-founded in late 2011 by former PopCap developer Roy Liu and CEO David Ng.
- TradeGecko
Participated · Seed · Dec 2012
TradeGecko offers a cloud-based inventory and order management SaaS that automates workflow inefficiencies by integrating front-end eCommerce and POS software with back-end accounting and shipping systems. The platform targets SMB commerce brands and aims to provide a seamless commerce stack to thousands of merchants. TradeGecko is led by CEO Cameron Priest and operates with a North American headquarters in Toronto. Customers named in the article include memobottle, Dead Studios, Brooklyn Bicycle Company, Maui and Sons, and Paula’s Choice Skincare. The company intends to use the new funding to grow its product suite and expand to empower more commerce businesses around the world. To date the company has raised over $20M in total capital. TradeGecko offers a cloud-based platform (desktop and mobile) that helps retailers and wholesalers manage inventory, purchase orders and orders without ERP or spreadsheets, integrating with QuickBooks, Xero, Shopify, Bigcommerce and ShipStation. Its subscription pricing is based on number of customers served and feature set, targeting businesses that typically earn $1M–$30M annually (with some up to ~$95M). The Singapore-based startup serves “a few thousand” businesses across about 90 countries and says it has helped process nearly $1 billion in transactions. TradeGecko competes with Stitch Labs and Unleashed Software but focuses on customers adding e-commerce to an existing business. Planned product work includes analytics for demand forecasting and customer segmentation, plus industry-specific features like batch tracking for electronics and expiry-date tracking for pharma. The company also plans geographic expansion and integrations with marketplaces such as Alibaba, Taobao and Rakuten, and will hire staff (including customer support) to support U.S. and Australian growth. TradeGecko is a Singapore-based cloud inventory and sales management application that emphasizes user experience with clean, intuitive data displays. The system integrates order processing, inventory management and customer-relationship management with real-time customer and sales data and works on tablet browsers for mobile access. TradeGecko bundles these functions into an easy-to-use package and positions itself as UX-first compared with incumbents and other startups. The company offers four pricing tiers ranging from $49 to $499 per month and currently has accounts from 26 countries while targeting wholesalers, distributors and importers in Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand and Australia. Founder Carl Thompson and co-founders Cameron and Bradley Priest launched the product to the public in September. The startup closed a $650,000 seed round last week to support integrations with Xero, Shopify and Vend and to fund expansion, including planned U.S. marketing outreach early next year.
