BiocSol, a UCLouvain spin-off based in Louvain-la-Neuve, develops microbial-based biopesticides with increased stability and efficiency to help farmers protect crops sustainably. The company leverages specific microbial substances to deliver reliable, affordable solutions for agricultural challenges such as mildew affecting row crops (potatoes), other vegetables and grapes. Led by CTO and founder Simon Caulier and CEO Denis Payen, BiocSol is focused on building its R&D platform to advance product candidates. The company plans to use the newly raised capital to support future development of that R&D platform. BiocSol's product strategy emphasizes improved stability and efficacy relative to existing biopesticide approaches. In November 2024 the company secured €5.2M in equity funding in a round led by Agri Investment Fund and VIVES Partners. BiocSol develops microbial-based biopesticides that provide biocontrol against crop pathogens, with its first products recently tested in real field conditions. The company harnesses specific microbial substances to create reliable, stable and cost-effective biosolutions targeting issues such as mildew and emerging fungal and oomycete pathogens. With the new funding, BiocSol plans to expand its team, broaden its R&D pipeline and kickstart regulatory processes for biofungicides. Management also intends to increase production capacity and optimize quality and efficiency processes to meet demand. The company says its mission is to deliver more sustainable and efficient agricultural solutions to farmers worldwide. BiocSol aims to attract a total of €10M by year-end through additional non-dilutive and equity financing.
