  • Cleveron

    Participated · Equity · Oct 2021

CLEVERON produces smart thermostat valves and sensors that optimize heating in large commercial and public buildings through an algorithm that links data, user programs, usage habits and weather. Its thermostats and sensors can cut energy consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 30%. The product portfolio includes a CO2 sensor that signals when to ventilate via an onboard traffic-light display or a web app. The system has been deployed in schools and public buildings, with over 5,000 installed thermostats and more than 600,000 kg of CO2 saved (approximately 300,000 liters of heating oil). In 2021 CLEVERON equipped over 1,000 school classrooms with CLEVER Sense sensors, benefiting over 20,000 schoolchildren. The company recently closed a CHF 2.5 million financing supported by Swiss Startup Capital AG, additional private investors, and a guarantee from the federal technology fund. Cleveron is a Bern-based cleantech company founded two years earlier by a team led by engineer Pietro Gagliardi and computer scientist Simone Cogno. It develops its own sensors, thermostats and a cloud-hosted web software that uses AI to detect occupancy, incorporate schedules and weather forecasts, and automatically lower and raise room temperatures. The company says installations of multiple dozens of sensors and thermostats can be completed in a few hours, after which the cloud software manages adjustments. Cleveron reports the system can immediately reduce energy consumption in buildings such as schools and municipal facilities by around 30%. Customers and references include municipalities such as Ittigen (pilot), Bellinzona, Chiasso, Locarno, Dietikon and Adliswil, and the Bernische Kraftwerke as a corporate partner. After a market trial with Ittigen, CEO Pietro Gagliardi decided in early 2019 to bring experienced investors on board and the founders converted the initially named Simply Home GmbH into Cleveron AG. Following market rollout across Switzerland, the company plans expansion into Germany and Austria.
