Zimperium is a San Francisco–based provider of a mobile threat management platform. Led by CEO Shridhar Mittal, the company’s solution delivers continuous, real-time cyber threat protection for mobile devices and applications. Its on-device detection engine uses patented machine learning technology to detect a broad array of mobile attacks. The company plans to use the funds to expand its global customer reach and mobile partner ecosystem, add new capabilities to its Mobile Threat Protection product suite, and develop new products. Zimperium closed a $25M Series C. Warburg Pincus led the round with participation from existing investors Sierra Ventures, Telstra Ventures and Lazarus Israel Opportunities Fund. Zimperium develops Mobile Threat Defense that uses patented, behavior-based analytics running continuously on the device to protect iOS and Android devices against WiFi, cellular and host-based cyberattacks. The company is led by CEO Shridhar Mittal and was founded in 2010. It closed a $12M Series B round to bolster its financial position. Zimperium intends to use the funds to scale operations, continue advancing its technology and support its customer base. The product runs on-device analytics, enabling protection even when devices are off-network or connected to untrusted networks. The company supplies solutions to enterprise customers, including telecom providers. Zimperium offers mobile security solutions including a consumer app called zAnti that lets users test networks for vulnerabilities such as man‑in‑the‑middle attacks. The company also provides a tool for IT administrators to monitor devices registered to a network. Zimperium announced it raised $8 million from Sierra Ventures to build out its mobile technology. The firm says it is working on a “super secret” project intended to turn the tables on attackers by hiring more hackers. Kevin Mitnick serves on the company’s board of advisors, and CEO Itzhak “Zuk” Avraham—who spent three years with the IDF—leads the company. AngelList lists 108 companies specializing in mobile security, and the article notes Zimperium now has to demonstrate commercial execution.
