  • Sauce Labs

    Participated · Series C · Jul 2013

Sauce Labs operates the Sauce Labs Continuous Testing Cloud, offering a 360-degree view of application experience to ensure web and mobile apps look, function, and perform across browsers, OSes, and devices. The company has been expanding its platform to serve more users and use cases across the DevOps toolchain, adding support for developer-preferred frameworks such as Cypress, Playwright, and TestCafe. Sauce Labs has expanded both organically and via acquisition, recently acquiring AutonomIQ (scriptless test automation) and API Fortress (API testing). It also launched end-to-end visual testing capabilities and announced a technology partnership with Sumo Logic. Sauce Labs is privately held and funded by investors including TPG, Salesforce Ventures, IVP, Adams Street Partners, and Riverwood Capital. In March 2021 TPG significantly increased its investment stake and Art Heidrich of TPG joined the Sauce Labs board, reinforcing investor support for the company’s strategy. Sauce Labs offers a Continuous Testing Cloud that gives development and quality teams instant access to test coverage, scalability, and analytics for apps and websites across browsers, OSes and devices. Led by CEO Charles Ramsey, the company focuses on ensuring consistent digital experiences for end users. Sauce Labs says it will use a recent $50M growth investment to accelerate core business growth and expand research and development. In conjunction with the funding, Riverwood Capital’s Jeff Parks will join the company’s board of directors. The company plans to evolve its portfolio beyond functional testing to provide customers a 360-degree view of the application experience. Sauce Labs intends to pursue strategic growth opportunities with the new capital. Sauce Labs provides infrastructure-as-a-service and software that enables developers to write, manage and run automated tests. Once a test script is written, it can automatically execute across the devices, browsers and operating systems a developer selects. The company says its automated approach aligns with the industry shift toward Agile development and rising device/browser complexity. Sauce Labs reports approximately 3,500 customers and 140 employees. Management believes the market has caught up to its product and that the company is well positioned for growth. It plans to hire engineers, salespeople and customer success personnel over the next year to meet demand. Sauce Labs offers a testing cloud optimized for continuous integration and continuous delivery, enabling users to run JavaScript unit and functional tests written with Selenium and Appium. Its infrastructure lets teams run automated tests in parallel on multiple virtual machines across many browsers and platforms, removing the need to maintain a private test grid. The company supports more than 450 browser, operating system and device platform combinations. Sauce Labs plans to use new funding to extend its core web application testing offering and its mobile testing platform, continue backing Appium, and expand infrastructure, the development team and international operations. Leadership is led by Jim Cerna (CEO) and Steve Hazel (CPO). The company is funded by investors including Salesforce Ventures, Triage Ventures and the Contrarian Group. Sauce Labs is a cloud-based app-testing service that enables testing of mobile web applications on Mac OS X, iOS and Android devices and web apps on major browsers including Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari and Chrome. The company added a management console called Sauce Team to provide team collaboration and improved visibility for finding bugs during testing. In August 2012 Sauce Labs released its mobile web application testing cloud, and usage metrics include a record 6 million tests in June and a total of 50 million tests since launch. Sauce Labs closed a $5 million Series C led by Toba Capital, bringing total funding to about $9 million since its first round of funding in 2009. The new funding will be used to implement the use of physical devices alongside mobile simulator capabilities, expected later this year, and to expand the sales organization. CEO John Dunham says Sauce Team is a first step toward better enterprise visibility and plans to allow teams to evaluate results against other users on Sauce Labs.

  • SpaceCurve

    Led · Series B · Jun 2013

SpaceCurve is a third-generation big data platform delivering real-time immersive intelligence and targeted at location-based services. Its architecture continuously processes, fuses and analyzes multiple layers of spatial, temporal, sensor network, social media and other large sets of streaming data to provide immediate insights. The platform is designed for round-trip real-time capture and analysis of multidimensional, machine-scale streaming data that traditional big data offerings cannot handle. SpaceCurve aims to extend existing applications and enable new services across mobile, social media, financial trading, energy, communications, transportation, government and other markets. The company announced a $10M Series B to support commercial efforts and the first release of the SpaceCurve platform scheduled for Q3. Proceeds will be used to expand sales and marketing in support of that release. SpaceCurve develops a Big Data geospatial-temporal database and immersive analytics tools that create real-time models of reality. The platform continuously captures, processes and analyzes geospatial, temporal, sensor network, social graph and other large data streams to provide immersive location intelligence. The company says its technology overcomes limitations of relational, NoSQL and traditional databases by handling both scale and complexity. Target markets include mobile communications, location-based services, social applications, commodities, defense and emergency services. SpaceCurve announced it will use new funding to launch its first product offerings in early 2013. The company reported positive technical responses from major accounts and aims to rapidly commercialize its product to meet that demand. SpaceCurve develops a new spatial-temporal database and accompanying graph analysis tools to ingest and analyze large geospatial, geotemporal, sensor, and network data sets. The company positions its product to enable real-time actionable intelligence for location-based services, social applications, commodities, defense, and emergency services. SpaceCurve says its database addresses scale and complexity limitations found in relational, NoSQL, and other traditional databases. The company raised $2.7 million to fund the development of these big data solutions aimed at real-time location-based services. Seattle-based SpaceCurve has added technology industry veteran John Slitz as CEO to lead growth, set strategic direction, and build the management team. Founder and CTO Andrew Rogers remains part of the leadership alongside Slitz. SpaceCurve develops a massively parallel analytical database platform enabling join-oriented semantic, spatial, and relational applications. The company's core product is an analytical database optimized for massively parallel processing and complex joins across semantic, spatial and relational data. Founded in 2009 and based in Palo Alto, California, the company formed a Federal Government Advisory Board in December 2009. Per a regulatory filing, SpaceCurve raised $1.1M in venture capital. The regulatory filing is the source of the financing disclosure.
