Humedics has developed the LiMAx breath-test diagnostic system, which comprises a CE-marked medical device, breath masks and a diagnostic drug to quantitatively determine individual liver function within minutes. The test enables clinicians to tailor treatment strategies based on a patient’s liver capacity. Current applications include assessment before and after liver transplantation, liver surgery planning to evaluate resection risk, and evaluation of diseases such as liver cirrhosis. The company is led by Managing Director Erwin de Buijzer and is based in Berlin, Germany. Humedics closed a €6.3m Series C financing round to support its next stage of growth. Sulfurcell develops, manufactures and sells CIGS/CIGSe thin‑film photovoltaic modules and building-integrated PV solutions for BIPV, solar construction and commercial rooftops. The company has commercialized at scale since shipping its first modules in 2005 and is ramping up a 35 MW production facility. Sulfurcell reports manufacturing full‑scale thin‑film modules at 12.6% efficiency and is targeting 14% efficiency within 12–18 months through ongoing R&D. The company employs about 250 people and has developed an automated industrial manufacturing process for its second‑generation thin‑film technology. Sulfurcell was founded in 2001 as a spin‑off from the Helmholtz Centre for Materials and Energy and has received multiple rounds of growth financing to support production and R&D, including a prior €85m round used to build a Berlin production facility. Nanda Technologies develops a high-throughput full-wafer inspection system used in semiconductor manufacturing, based on a proprietary optical design and image-processing software. Its technology increases inspection speed while maintaining high sensitivity, enabling inspection of every wafer in the process flow rather than sampling. The approach materially lowers inspection cost per wafer compared with existing tools. The company is based in Unterschleissheim, Germany. Nanda will use the recent financing to support pre-production evaluations at leading semiconductor manufacturers. Capital-E will take an active board role to support the company’s further growth.
