  Edgeless Systems develops open source software for confidential computing, centered on its Constellation platform. Constellation leverages confidential computing to isolate and runtime-encrypt entire Kubernetes deployments, letting enterprises use the public cloud like their private cloud and preventing access by hackers, cloud admins, and foreign governments. The system and its associated tools are already being used by hundreds of developers and DevOps engineers at companies such as Bosch, IBM and Intel. Founded in 2020 and led by CEO Felix Schuster, the Bochum-based company raised $5M in Seed funding led by SquareOne with participation from angel investors Evan Weaver, Mirko Novakovic, Paolo Negri, Mathias Biilman and Chris Back. The company intends to use the funds to sustain its product lead, expand into the United States, add features to Constellation, and build out its marketing and sales teams. Edgeless Systems develops a high-security relational database for the cloud that combines secure hardware with innovative software engineering to deliver end-to-end encryption and verifiability. The company was founded in 2020 by Felix Schuster (formerly at Microsoft) and Thomas Tendyck (formerly at G Data) and is based in Bochum in the Ruhrgebiet. Edgeless has adopted an open-source market-entry strategy and plans to monetise via paid premium features and SaaS offerings built on that base. It cites partners such as Intel and aims to make confidential computing easy to use, scalable, and integrable for cloud and AI use cases. The startup recently secured €1.45 million from investors and intends to use the funds to grow its developer and engineering team and to strengthen marketing and sales. Edgeless expects to become a visible standards-setter in confidential computing and to ship commercially successful products and large projects—such as end-to-end secure AI pipelines for connected vehicles—within a year.
