Participated · Equity · Jul 2026
Self Inspection offers an AI-powered inspection platform that guides users to capture smartphone photos of a vehicle, compares images against a large dataset of damaged vehicles, and generates detailed PDF inspection reports with labor, parts, and cost estimates. The platform can also ingest OBD2 data for deeper diagnostics. Since its 2021 founding, the company says it has completed over 1 million inspections for customers including rental fleets, automotive finance companies, auctions, marketplaces, and Stellantis’ financial services arm. Self Inspection reports that its platform has reduced customer costs by over $80 million and saved more than 300,000 operational hours. The company plans to use recent funding to build more products, expand its enterprise customer base, and enter the European market.
- Car Capital Technologies
Led · Debt Financing · Jul 2024
Car Capital Technologies provides financing solutions and origination services to independent and franchise automotive dealerships, supporting dealer growth and portfolio expansion. The company offers debt facilities and plans to enhance its underwriting through AI-compatible models while improving its technology platform. Recent financings will be used to expand its dealer network and scale origination capabilities. Car Capital closed a senior/subordinate warehouse financing facility composed of Class A and Class B secured debt to support ongoing originations. Management is expanding with three senior hires: Jeff Adams joining the board, Kevin Godart as Head of Capital Markets and Assistant Treasurer, and Deanna Hamideh as Controller. These hires are intended to strengthen remarketing, capital markets execution, and financial reporting as the company grows. Car Capital operates DEALSSM, a proprietary web-based Dealer Electronic Auto Loan System that lets franchise and independent dealers make immediate auto loan decisions and modify deal terms in real time. The platform allows dealers to adjust terms based on the economics of each car and consumer, enabling back-end profit based on performance rather than minimum portfolio size requirements. The company is led by co-founder and CEO Justin Tisler and Chairman Brian Reed and serves both franchise and independent dealer partners. Car Capital closed a $20 million credit line with Medalist Partners, giving it access to capital to expand its business and fund deals. The debt facility is intended to support growth and transaction activity across its dealer network.
- TRED
Participated · Series B · Nov 2021
Founded in 2012 in Seattle, Tred has evolved from a concierge test-drive service into a fully automated, “nobody-leaves-the-office” digital dealership for peer-to-peer car sales. The platform vets buyers and manages every step of the transaction, including payment collection, financing, warranty sales, and title transfer. After iterating through several service models, the company hit product-market fit in 2017 with its current software-driven approach. Tred’s workforce more than doubled last year to 25 employees, and its geographic footprint now spans Washington, Oregon, California, Texas, and Florida, with three additional states slated to come online within two months—covering up to 45% of the U.S. market. Management positions the company as the “PayPal for big-ticket goods,” aiming to power the back-end of peer-to-peer vehicle transactions. Benefiting from pandemic-driven demand for used cars, Tred is in a growth phase supported by $12 million in total funding raised to date, which includes prior convertible notes. Competitive peers include Vroom and Blinker, though many rivals only handle advertising rather than end-to-end sales services.
