DesignMedix is a Portland, Oregon-based biotech developing drugs to overcome drug resistance, with an initial focus on oral malaria treatments. Founded in 2008 and led by Dr. Sandra Shotwell (president and COO), the company is building a pipeline that also targets new anti-bacterial drugs. It holds exclusive rights to four issued patents related to malaria drug candidates. DesignMedix plans to use recent financing to advance preclinical development across its pipeline. The company recently closed a $1.5M second round of angel funding and was awarded a $3M grant from the National Institutes of Health to support preclinical development of its malaria drug. Its lab and office are housed in the PSU Business Accelerator.
