Aviva offers loans generally between $100 and $1,000 to individuals and small businesses, primarily serving informal-economy customers outside major metropolitan areas. Customers apply through videoconference bots at physical kiosks and applications are evaluated in minutes using AI models that analyze behavioral and identity signals. The company currently operates in more than 300 small and mid-sized cities across 23 Mexican states and reports over 300,000 completed kiosk application processes. Aviva’s product lineup includes a working-capital loan for microbusinesses and a point-of-sale consumer credit product deployed through kiosks inside retail stores. Founded in 2022 by Filiberto Castro, David Hernández, Amran Frey and Israel García, the company has raised $34 million in capital and more than $80 million in credit lines to date. Aviva aims to reach an addressable market of over 50 million adults with limited access to banking services and plans to use recent funding to expand locations, products and technology staff.
- Heru
Participated · Seed · Dec 2020
Heru provides an AI-based tax platform that simplifies the tax-filing process and delivers intelligent insights for future filings. Led by CEO Mateo Jaramillo and based in Mexico City, the company is building tax automation infrastructure to help individuals and businesses analyze, reconcile, process, and pay taxes automatically using AI. Heru serves end customers and partners with businesses such as Uber, Rappi, UberEats, Mercado Envios Extra (Mercado Libre), Cornershop and Beat. The company intends to use its new funding to expand its suite of products and to improve its core tax automation technology for both end customers and business partners. In September 2022 Heru raised $6M in Seed funding to support those plans. Heru offers a package of software products aimed at delivery drivers and freelancers, including tax preparation, low-cost accident insurance and credit-related services. The company soft-launched its app and accepted around 1,200 users during a test period, with roughly 20,000 more users in line. Early customers are buying on average 1.2 Heru products. Heru’s tax tool targets a specific need in Mexico, where independent workers are expected to file taxes monthly; the tax service costs about $5/month and insurance is also priced at about $5/month. In addition to software, the startup built physical “Heru Casas” in Mexico City where gig workers can recharge phones and use facilities; app access is required to enter. Founders Mateo Jaramillo and Stiven Rodríguez Sánchez are ex-Uber employees originally from Colombia. The company plans to double down on product work and eventually expand to additional Latin American countries.
