The platform combines engineering and information technology expertise across a broad portfolio of solutions. The company plans to use the newly raised funds to further develop the platform. Led by founder and CEO Johannes Fütterer, aedifion was spun out of RWTH Aachen University’s Institute for Building Technology in 2017. It has participated in research initiatives funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection and collaborated with research institutions including FU Berlin, University of Stuttgart and Fraunhofer ISE. Aedifion has partnered with industry players such as Eon, Uniper and Züblin. aedifion operates a plug-and-play, AI-based cloud platform that autonomously analyses and optimises technical building operations to boost energy efficiency, reduce CO2 emissions and lower operating costs. The software is used across more than 1,000,000 m² and by over 50 customers, including Art-Invest Real Estate, Commerz Real and ECE. The company employs more than 30 people and focuses on applying its automation to both existing buildings and new construction to meet tightening ESG and regulatory requirements. aedifion plans to use fresh capital to continue development of its software and accelerate digital decarbonization of real-estate portfolios. The platform emphasises rapid deployment without additional hardware and claims payback within months for many customers. Founded in 2017 and based in Cologne, the firm positions itself as a specialist in building-efficiency software for non-residential properties. aedifion develops software that analyzes building operating costs to help property owners identify and reduce expenses. The platform is positioned as an IoT backbone for efficiency measures in both existing buildings and new projects, according to its investor. Its solution is already in use at customers including E.ON, ROM Technik and ZWP Ingenieur-AG. Management says the recent seed financing will allow the company to accelerate product development and expand sales. The company is led by founders Johannes Peter Fütterer and Felix Dorner. The financing is intended to support growth beyond 2020.
