Belfort

San Francisco, CA, United States

Overview

Belfort is a spin-off from KU Leuven’s COSIC lab that develops purpose-built hardware to make fully encrypted computation feasible at scale. Its accelerator processes data while it remains encrypted, removing exposure risks to servers, cloud operators, or insiders and opening secure use cases in blockchain, finance, healthcare, and government. The product is already listed on AWS Marketplace and positions Belfort as the first company to commercialize dedicated silicon for encrypted compute. Seed funding will allow the company to double its headcount and expand enterprise pilots out of its San Francisco and Leuven offices. The founding team combines deep cryptographic research experience with industry backgrounds at Intel, Microsoft Research, Kraken Ventures, and Google[x]. Their technology stems from years of ERC-funded research and a competitive DARPA contract, underscoring strong technical defensibility. While revenue and user numbers were not disclosed, the $6 million seed round provides the runway to advance product development and early customer deployments.
