Overview
Canatu develops and manufactures 3D formable and stretchable transparent conductive films and touch sensors that can be integrated into plastic, glass, textile or leather to enable 3D touch displays, smart switches and other intuitive user interfaces. The company supplies these films and sensors to touch module vendors and OEMs across industries such as automotive and consumer electronics. Canatu is led by CEO Juha Kokkonen. The company raised €12M in funding to support its growth. It intends to use the funds to accelerate product development, further develop mass production automatization, expand into new strategic product areas and speed global expansion, especially in Asia and Europe. Canatu is headquartered in Finland and maintains sales locations in Europe, the US, China and Taiwan, Japan and Korea. Canatu, founded in 2008 as a spin-off from Aalto University and led by CEO Risto Vuohelainen, develops carbon nanomaterial thin films for the electronics, optics and energy sectors. The company has created a novel form of carbon, NanoBud®, and a proprietary Direct Dry Printing® process to produce high-value components on any substrate. These technologies enable roll-to-roll manufacturing of 3D-formed, bendable and flexible touch sensors for numerous applications. Canatu intends to use newly raised capital to finalize a volume manufacturing line for conductive films and touch sensors in Helsinki and to add resources to key business development activities. The company recently closed $12M in financing, improving its position to scale manufacturing. Canatu Ltd. is an Espoo, Finland–based nanotechnology company commercializing carbon thin films under the NanoBud™ name for the electronics, optics and energy sectors. Its first products are flexible and environmentally friendly transparent conductor films for user interfaces such as touch screens. The company received a €4.7m financing to support its development. Investors in the round include Inventure Ltd., Infosto Ltd. and Tekes (the Finnish technology development agency). The capital infusion will be used to fund the company’s production development. In conjunction with the financing, Sami Lampinen of Inventure will join the board while Ari Ahola of Infosto will continue as Chairman; existing board members include former Nokia CTO Dr. Yrjö Neuvo, Aalto University Professor Esko Kauppinen and CEO Dr. David Brown.
