Overview
Chekkit offers product verification and anti-counterfeiting solutions using blockchain to protect manufacturers and consumers from food and drug counterfeits. The company was founded in 2018 by Dare Odumade (CEO) and Oluwatosin Adelowo (CMO) and is Nigeria-based. Chekkit reports having secured over 7 million pharmaceutical products, protected over 200,000 consumers, and expanded a partnership to verify and track over 200 million products. It has run pilots and partnerships including an Afghanistan pilot and an MoU with Afghanistan’s Ministry of Health, and has worked with pharmaceutical firms such as Merck, Royal Star Pharma, and Nabros Pharmaceutical as well as consumer brands like Indomie, Nivea, and Flour Mills of Nigeria. Chekkit also deployed a COVID-19 USSD Help & Information Center in partnership with the African Union and the Africa CDC. The company plans to use new funding to expand its team and technological infrastructure and to launch a consumer-intelligence SaaS for brands that uses QR and USSD shortcodes for loyalty, engagement data aggregation, and rewards distribution.
