Divido

16 Great Queen Street, London, England, United Kingdom

Overview

Divido is a London-based, 2014-founded white-label platform that enables retailers to offer buy-now-pay-later at the point of sale via integrations with e-commerce platforms and omni-channel systems. It operates a marketplace model where multiple lenders compete to offer consumers credit, with lenders assessing credit suitability rather than Divido itself. The company says its product can drive 20–40% more sales for retailers and reports more than 1,000 clients and operators. Divido is active in 10 markets across two continents and avoids needing a banking license by partnering with banks, retailers and payment partners. The startup plans to use new funding to accelerate international expansion after a slower-than-expected rollout since its 2018 Series A. Divido provides point-of-purchase consumer and merchant finance by letting lenders compete in a marketplace to offer credit at checkout, online or in-store. The platform powers both B2C and B2B finance and claims to boost retailer sales by up to 20 percent. Divido works with over 1,000 partners and counts clients such as Mercedes‑Benz, BNP Paribas and Shopify. Launched in late 2015 and based in London, the company’s technology is available across the U.K., Germany, France, Spain, Italy, the Nordics and the U.S. Divido is pivoting to licence its platform to banks and lenders via a white-label service called “Powered by Divido.” The company says the new capital will be used for global expansion, with a target of entering 10 more countries by the end of 2019. Divido is a paperless payment solution that allows customers to spread the cost of any purchase while retailers receive full payment up front. The product works in stores, online and over the phone and supports major e-commerce platforms including Shopify, Magneto and WordPress. Divido operates a proprietary marketplace of multiple sources of finance, which the company says delivers higher approval rates, lower fees and a broad range of finance options including no-interest offers for consumers and commissions to retailers. It can currently facilitate €590 million in finance per year and up to €29,000 per individual transaction, and is already used by over 100 retailers, brands and manufacturers. The company charges an initial set-up fee, a monthly fee and the cost of the finance provided. Divido was launched in September 2015 in the UK by CEO Christer Holloman with co-founders Anders Hallsten and Fredrik Borgquist; the founding team includes executives with backgrounds at Glassdoor, Range Rover e-commerce and RBS IT.
