Overview
Founded in 2022 by serial entrepreneur Brett Adcock, Figure is developing the Figure 01 bipedal humanoid robot aimed at performing repetitive, labor-intensive tasks in warehouses and factories. The company hit its self-imposed milestone of achieving a walking prototype within a year and recently demonstrated the robot operating at roughly 16.7% of human speed while carrying a warehouse tote. Figure is pursuing "general-purpose" capability by integrating large language models that enable natural language command and reasoning, a goal it is advancing through a new partnership with OpenAI. Microsoft is providing Azure infrastructure for training and storage, and the startup has already secured a deployment agreement with BMW. The 80-person firm plans to scale headcount and accelerate go-to-market efforts with its fresh capital. Financially, Adcock initially bootstrapped the company with $100 million, followed by a $70 million Series A in May 2023. Its latest $675 million Series B values Figure at $2.6 billion post-money, underscoring significant investor confidence in its vision of commercial humanoid robotics.
