Overview

Flox is a group-based social app that lets friends create a shared profile (a “Flock”) and connect with other groups to meet new people. Founder Jamie Lee launched a no-code beta in summer 2020 and ran an alpha in February 2021 with roughly 250 users, then moved into a private New York City beta for undergrads and recent graduates. The product emphasizes group identity to reduce the stigma and safety risks tied to one-on-one friend-finding. Flox has a waitlist of more than 20,000 users and promotional TikToks that have amassed about 1.8 million views across three posts. The early team consisted of Lee and two full-time engineers; Lee left Columbia to work on the app full time. The company plans to open access to college-aged New Yorkers first and then expand to other cities while prioritizing a positive, authentic experience for users.
