  • Bee

    Participated · Seed · Aug 2024

Bee is a San Francisco-based startup led by Maria de Lourdes Zollo that is developing a life-admin wearable assistant. Its core product is a Bluetooth device about the size of an AirTag with a microphone that captures users’ daily life to perform tasks and make personalized suggestions. Bee also offers Apple Watch recording functionality and a cloud-based phone that can act across popular apps to perform actions with minimal guidance. The device learns preferences, habits, and priorities over time and Bees can communicate with each other to help manage relationships on users’ behalf. Bee uses signals such as location, time use, and voice characteristics to generate personalized reminders, appointments, and activity suggestions. The company plans a Fall 2024 launch and will use the funding to expand operations and development efforts. It raised $7M in seed funding to support those plans.

  • Pok Pok

    Participated · Series A · Jun 2024

Pok Pok builds play-based learning experiences for preschoolers through its app Pok Pok Playroom, which offers 17 "digital toy" play experiences (drawing, shape interaction, dress-up, dinosaurs and more). The product was incubated inside Snowman and the team includes Mathijs Demaeght (VP of design), Esther Huybreghts (chief creative officer) and CEO Melissa Cash. Since its May 2021 debut the app has surpassed one million downloads, reached six-figure monthly recurring revenue, and the business has grown 5x year-over-year with a 9x increase in subscribers over the past year. Pok Pok previously raised a $3 million seed round and has now closed a $6 million Series A. With the new capital the company plans to expand to Android later this fall and add STEM-based activities targeted to the preschool crowd alongside its existing playful experiences. The team also made allocation changes and executed a second close to bring women investors onto the cap table. Pok Pok is a Toronto-based edtech startup that builds play-based digital learning experiences for young children after spinning out of Snowman in 2019. Its flagship product, Pok Pok Playroom, launched in May 2021 and features six open-ended "digital toys" designed to grow with children; the app is explicitly not a game. The team has 10 full-time employees and was founded by Mathijs Demaeght and Esther Huybreghts, with Melissa Cash as CEO and co-founder. Pok Pok plans to release three new digital toys in the next few months and is developing future products aimed at older kids. Recent product updates have included a Pride update to increase representation and diversity within the app. The company says it will use new funding to invest in marketing, ongoing development, maintenance of the app, and to broaden its product reach.

  • Chainguard

Its product suite includes Chainguard Containers (now featuring more than 1,700 minimal, zero-CVE images), Chainguard Libraries for JavaScript, Java, and Python, and the recently unveiled Chainguard VMs that offer a cloud-agnostic, threat-resistant environment for container workloads. The company is expanding distribution through listings on AWS, Azure, and GCP marketplaces and counts enterprises such as Anduril, Canva, Fortinet, HPE, Snap, and Snowflake as customers. Recent milestones also include recognition on the Forbes Cloud 100 and Fortune’s Best Workplaces in Technology lists as well as key executive hires for CISO and CFO roles. Financially, Chainguard has raised $892 million to date, with $636 million coming in the last six months alone, and management cites “incredible unit economics” and disciplined capital allocation. The new funds will fuel go-to-market expansion while allowing equity capital to be reserved for continued product and engineering investment, supporting the firm’s ambition to make trusted open source a core layer of global infrastructure.
