Foodscovery operates an online and mobile marketplace that enables small Made-in-Italy food producers to sell and deliver products within 24–48 hours. The platform’s catalog includes about 1,500 items from local bakeries, butcheries, cheese and pastry producers. Founded in 2014 and based in Pescara, Italy, the company was incubated within Digital Magics and currently has 12 employees; Axel Springer is also among its shareholders. Management includes founders Fabio Di Gioia and Mario Sorbo (who together own 41%). The company raised €800K to support product and market expansion and to strengthen its balance sheet through equity investments by strategic backers. Planned uses of proceeds include launching a new version of the website, increasing the number of producers on the platform, hiring a designer, a sales professional, an accountant/business analyst and SEM/SEO specialists, and beginning international expansion starting in the UK.
