The technology can also detect and filter out unwanted DNA mutations, positioning it as a potentially safer approach for editing human cells. Currently, the company monetizes the tool through contract research services for pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients and has generated over £2.2 million in commercial business in under two years. Headquartered at the University of Nottingham, Forge Genetics was founded by Professor Nigel Minton, Dr Chris Humphreys, and Dr Craig Woods, later joined by Dr Lisa Thomas. The firm employs 10 people and plans to double its headcount within the next two years. New funding will be directed toward expanding commercial strain-development projects and adapting the platform for use in human and animal cells, broadening its market reach.
