- Neupulse
Led · Equity · Feb 2026
Neupulse is a University of Nottingham spin-out focused on bringing to market a non-invasive wristband that eases motor and vocal tics associated with Tourette’s syndrome. The device delivers targeted stimulation intended to provide a drug-free alternative to medication and behavioural therapy, addressing a significant unmet clinical need that affects up to 2 % of children worldwide. Management plans a mid-2026 commercial debut in the UK before scaling internationally. The £3 m raised follows a £500 k investment from the Midlands Engine Investment Fund II in 2024, giving the team additional runway for trials and early commercialisation activities. - Forge Genetics
Led · Equity · Oct 2025
Forge Genetics has created a proprietary gene-editing platform that offers higher targeting accuracy than CRISPR, enabling more bacterial cells to survive editing and functioning across a broader spectrum of bacterial strains. The technology can also detect and filter out unwanted DNA mutations, positioning it as a potentially safer approach for editing human cells. Currently, the company monetizes the tool through contract research services for pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients and has generated over £2.2 million in commercial business in under two years. Headquartered at the University of Nottingham, Forge Genetics was founded by Professor Nigel Minton, Dr Chris Humphreys, and Dr Craig Woods, later joined by Dr Lisa Thomas. The firm employs 10 people and plans to double its headcount within the next two years. New funding will be directed toward expanding commercial strain-development projects and adapting the platform for use in human and animal cells, broadening its market reach.
