Overview
Forto is a freight technology startup that manages shipping containers from origin to destination. It coordinates shipments by sea, rail and air and handles up to 10,000 containers a year. The company serves about 2,500 clients, including Home24 and German supermarket chain Edeka. Forto plans to use new funding to expand trade shipments between China and Europe. After the latest round its valuation is close to $1.2 billion and it has raised a total of $360 million to date. Forto previously raised $50 million late last year. Forto operates a digital freight-forwarding platform that gives customers real-time data, on-time delivery and an emissions rating for transport options. The platform typically reduces administrative supply-chain costs by about 30% and helps customers make smarter, more sustainable decisions. Its solutions are used by more than 2,500 customers, including Viessmann, Miele and Home24. The company reported volumes grew 300% year-over-year in recent quarters despite challenging trading conditions. Forto plans to use new funding to accelerate development of its supply-chain management offerings by adding order management and value-added services. It is expanding its European and Asian operations, recently opened a Singapore office and extended its presence to five offices in Asia; it has raised $103 million since launching in 2016.
