FreightWaves builds SaaS market-data products and a streaming content network aimed at the $9.6 trillion global logistics industry. Its core product is the SONAR SaaS solution, which the company says is redefining decision-making across the freight landscape. FreightWaves also operates FreightWaves TV (a daily streaming news network with 12 weekly shows), podcasts, and a Sirius XM radio partnership, and it has converted live events to virtual offerings. The company grew top-line revenue in H1 2020 by over 50% versus H1 2019; excluding cancelled community events, it more than tripled year‑over‑year. FreightWaves’ streaming reach includes over 25,000 daily TV viewers, and its virtual FreightWaves @HOME served more than 90,000 participants. Management plans to use new funding to accelerate product development and pursue potential strategic acquisitions, while founder and CEO Craig Fuller, President George Abernathy, and CFO Spencer Piland remain in place. FreightWaves provides near-time analytics, market indices, geo heat-maps, barometers and news to market participants in the freight industry. The company aggregates hundreds of sources and represents billions of individual data points to model near-time changes and impacts on freight markets. Its SONAR platform will deliver market maps, indices, commentary and analytics to freight participants and financial speculators. FreightWaves has also developed technical and market forums, education, thought leadership, standards and certifications through the BiTA platform. The company is working to offer hedging and risk-management tools in the form of listed futures contracts to help mitigate exposure to U.S. trucking spot-price volatility. FreightWaves raised $20M in a Series B and will use the proceeds to expand its data and transparency products beyond trucking to include global air, rail, maritime, port and warehousing.
