GenEdit is a US genetic medicines developer focused on hydrophilic nanoparticles (HNPs) for nucleic acid‑based therapies. The company’s core product is HNPs designed to enable delivery of nucleic acid‑based medicines for autoimmune indications. GenEdit announced a multiyear collaboration and license agreement with Genentech to discover and develop these nanoparticles for autoimmune targets. Under the agreement, Genentech will be responsible for pre‑clinical, clinical, and regulatory development as well as commercialization of products resulting from the use of GenEdit’s nanoparticles. The company disclosed in vivo data showing tissue-selective delivery after intravenous or intrathecal administration and that nanoparticles can be dosed multiple times while preserving payload activity. GenEdit is based in South San Francisco, California. GenEdit, Inc. is a Berkeley, CA–based developer of a proprietary polymer nanoparticle technology platform for non-viral delivery of gene therapeutics. Launched in 2016 by UC Berkeley scientists Kunwoo Lee, Hyo Min Park, and Niren Murthy, the company has developed a polymer nanoparticle library and established initial proof of concept by delivering CRISPR-Cas9 and gene editors to target tissues. Its proprietary nanoparticles have broad applicability, including the development of CRISPR-based therapeutics and gene therapy products for a wide range of genetic diseases. GenEdit completed an $8.5M seed financing and intends to use the funds to continue to build and advance its polymer nanoparticle system. The round reflects participation from both new and pre-seed investors, and included board additions tied to the financing.
