Overview

Homebase builds HR software focused on the two-thirds of the American SMB workforce with hourly, on-site jobs, offering payroll, shift scheduling, timesheets, hiring and onboarding, team communication and HR compliance. The company serves over 100,000 small-business customers and covers more than 2 million employees. Homebase recently closed a $60M Series D led by L Catterton Growth with participation from Emerson Collective and existing investors. The round brings its total venture-backed capital to $169M; the company previously raised $71M in 2021. Since 2021 Homebase has expanded into additional financial-services products and added AI-enhanced features to improve automated payroll and is working on automated tip management. Leadership changes this year include Philip Moon joining as CFO and co-founder Rushi Patel taking the added title of chief revenue officer. Founder and CEO John Waldmann said the company will continue R&D investments to further its mission of making hourly work better. Homebase builds a platform that helps small and medium businesses manage their hourly workforces, offering payroll, shift scheduling, timeclocks, timesheets, hiring and onboarding, communication, and HR compliance. The company has grown to serve some 100,000 small businesses and about 1 million employees, and its payroll product is live in 27 states. Homebase has raised $108 million to date and just closed a $71 million Series C valuing the company between $500 million and $600 million. GGV Capital led the Series C, with participation from backers including Bain Capital Ventures, Baseline Ventures, Bedrock, Cowboy Ventures and Khosla Ventures, plus several individual investors. Founder and CEO John Waldmann said the new capital will be used to bring on more customers and expand the list of services, including more features for frontline and desk hourly workers. The company is focused on the North American market and is exploring additional financial services such as pay advances to broaden its offerings for hourly workers. Homebase offers a platform that lets local businesses manage hourly teams via scheduling, time tracking, team communication, and hiring tools. More than 100,000 businesses use its services across the U.S. The company recently launched Homebase Hiring to help employers find candidates, manage job listings, schedule interviews, and onboard employees, with hired profiles imported into the broader Homebase system. Homebase integrates with tools businesses rely on, including ADP, Clover, Gusto, QuickBooks, Square, and others. Led by CEO John Waldmann, the company plans to continue developing its product suite and forming partnerships to accelerate customer adoption. It operates from Houston, TX and San Francisco, CA. Homebase offers a cloud-based, freemium scheduling and time-tracking app built for small, hourly businesses, with paid premium features. The product automates shift scheduling, sends text reminders, tracks breaks and overtime, and helps owners avoid unexpected labor costs and compliance issues. The company says it saves small business owners an average of five hours a week on administrative tasks. Homebase reports 20 million shifts recorded across 50,000 small businesses and users in every state; about 70% of clients are restaurants and 25% are retailers. The startup employs about 22 full-time staff and is headquartered in San Francisco with an outpost in Houston, Texas. It plans to use new funding for sales, marketing, hiring, and continued product development (including scheduling that accounts for workers’ personal preferences).
