Huboo

Overview

Huboo is a Bristol-based e-commerce fulfillment platform that provides fulfillment services to online merchants. Over the past 12 months it posted 100% growth, adding £25 million in new business and roughly 800 new clients, and it says it surpassed £5 million in ARR earlier this year. The company has streamlined costs and reduced overhead by about half while introducing new services, including automation for enterprise clients. Huboo's leadership says the business is striving towards profitability and continues to roll out technology and operational improvements to "revolutionise, simplify and transform e-commerce fulfilment." The company has attracted continued investor support from existing backers such as Ada Ventures and Maersk Growth as well as lenders. Following the latest financing its cumulative capital raised stands at £122 million. Huboo operates an end-to-end fulfilment platform that manages storage, picking, packing and delivery for micro, small and mid-sized e-commerce businesses. At the heart of the business is a proprietary, multi-faceted software platform that optimises all stages of the fulfilment process. The company primarily targets underserved retail and consumer SMEs, addressing a UK market of roughly 550,000 such businesses, 25–40% of which sell online. Huboo's software-enabled operating model reportedly serves these customers profitably where many competitors cannot. True says it will support Huboo’s rapid commercial growth by plugging the startup into relevant companies and stakeholders via its Live Network. Founders include CEO Martin Bysh and Paul Dodd, who lead the company as it scales to serve small online businesses experiencing demand spikes. Huboo provides a full-stack, software-driven warehousing and fulfilment system that combines proprietary warehouse-management software with a merchant dashboard and API integrations to marketplaces like Amazon, eBay and Shopify. Its fulfilment centres are organised into small “micro-hubs” that enable more efficient picking and packing. The company was founded in 2017 by Martin Bysh and Paul Dodd out of a single warehouse in Bristol and now operates four UK fulfilment centres and a site in the Netherlands. Huboo says it serves over 1,000 customers and plans to roll out across other European markets. Financially, the company has attracted institutional capital, recently closing a significant funding round as it scales operations and software capabilities. Huboo offers an end-to-end fulfilment service using a “micro-warehousing” model paired with a vertical software platform that stores merchants' stock and picks, packs and ships orders as they arrive. Its dashboard provides stock control, order tracking, billing and integrates with third-party channels such as Amazon, eBay and Shopify to process orders in real time. Launched in November 2017 by Martin Bysh and Paul Dodd, the company targets independent and direct-to-consumer retailers seeking faster, more robust fulfilment. Huboo will use the new funding to expand its software capabilities, grow its U.K. footprint and establish an on-the-ground European presence as Brexit hardens. The firm plans to increase its software development team ten-fold and open a third U.K. warehouse in October 2020 and a fourth in January 2021. Financially, Huboo raised a £14M Series A in this round, bringing total funding to £18M to date. Huboo operates a multi-channel fulfilment service for e-commerce businesses, promising to store stock and automatically pick, pack and deliver customer orders as they are placed. Its dashboard provides stock control, order tracking and billing, and its core operational technology integrates with sales channels and marketplaces including Amazon, eBay and Shopify to receive and process orders in real time. The company has opened a second purpose-built warehouse and grown its full-time headcount to 52. Clients have expanded from 80 to 250, and over 50% of revenues come from U.K.-manufactured items and re-commerce clients. By outsourcing fulfilment, Huboo aims to let online merchants focus on customer service and product selection/development. The startup is positioning to scale further ahead of a future Series A.
