Overview
Index Robotics is building upper-body humanoid robots aimed at automating high-mix, low-volume industrial processes that still rely on skilled manual work. Its proprietary IA series actuators deliver the joint accuracy and fast response required for repetitive tasks and form the hardware foundation of the company’s first robot, the INDEX01 prototype. The robot’s compact upper-body form factor lets it be deployed quickly even in cramped factory spaces, targeting logistics, machining and precision assembly roles. INDEX01 is engineered to minimise installation space and construction time while gradually expanding autonomous capability through AI trained on motion data collected from real production lines. CEO Shin Seung-hoon argues that hardware reliability is the main barrier to humanoid robot commercialisation, so the company takes a hardware-first approach rather than relying primarily on software. With KRW 1.5 billion in new seed funding, Index Robotics will continue developing the IA actuators, validate the INDEX01 prototype and expand proof-of-concept collaborations with domestic and international manufacturers and research institutes.
