Overview

FuturePlay is an accelerator and early-stage investor specialized in deep tech startups. Founded in 2014 in Seoul, South Korea, FuturePlay have invested in 55 deep tech, mainly South Korea's startups and about one third of them are US-based startups. FuturePlay is expanding target regions to Southeast Asia like Singapore, Vietnam, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. It also plays a role of LP of some tech-focused funds like 500 Kimchi (500Startups' Korean Fund) and Zeroth.ai (http://zeroth.ai/). FuturePlay is venture-backed mainly from global enterprises such as CISCO, DeNA, LG, NHN, SK Planet. FuturePlay has two acceleration program, TechUP and TechUP+. TechUP is annual batch program which is a kind of company-building with deep tech engineers. TechUP+ is a co-acceleration program with large enterprise specialized in a particular industry like food, beauty, energy, etc. The first TechUP+ is sponsored by AmorePacific, the number one cosmetic company in Asia, and is running now with 5 beauty tech startups.

    Neuble AI was founded by clinical faculty from Gangnam Severance Hospital, including radiologists and medical physicists, and is based in Seoul. The company develops medical imaging AI tools aimed at improving diagnostic precision and accessibility for degenerative brain conditions such as dementia. Its product pipeline includes BrainCura, an AI tool for volumetric brain measurement via CT scans, and SynCura, which synthesizes MRI-quality images from CT scans. Neuble AI raised $269,000 in a seed round led by Futureplay to fund regulatory submissions and prepare for commercial launch. The company is pursuing approvals from South Korea's MFDS, the U.S. FDA, and CE marking in Europe as part of its near-term go-to-market plan.

    Rosota develops next-generation surgical robots that embed AI trained on surgical data to understand and assist in real-time clinical situations. Its core asset is a proprietary data-collection infrastructure that captures surgical video, medical-device motion, and sensor data in real time, then anonymizes and integrates those signals for AI training. The company was spun out of the MediSC lab at Seoul National University Hospital and is led by CEO Seo Ye-chan with cofounders Choi Min-woo and Lee Dong-ho. Rosota positions itself to move beyond teleoperated robots by creating what it calls an "AI-native" surgical system that can learn and support surgeons’ decision-making. With the newly raised 1.5 billion won seed round, the company plans to further develop its data platform, train its AI models, and grow its clinical collaboration network. The team emphasizes a multidisciplinary approach combining clinical problem definition and robotic systems implementation.

    Asteromorph develops a foundation model, Spacer, that it says combines a base LLM with deep domain knowledge and multi-step reasoning to autonomously generate research ideas and scientific hypotheses in biology and chemistry. Its flagship initiative, the "Library Project," aims to run the autonomous system at scale to uncover fundamental mechanisms of life and compile findings into a structured database. The company emphasizes autonomous hypothesis generation and end-to-end scientific workflows rather than solely assisting human researchers. Leadership includes CEO Lee Min-hyung, who entered advanced research training early, and a core team of young researchers from top Korean STEM programs. Financially, Asteromorph has raised a $31.4M seed round and previously raised approximately ₩5 billion. The company faces the challenge of validating model-generated discoveries through rigorous experimental work at scale.

    Dnotitia develops an AI storage stack centered on Seahorse, a vector database, and VDPU, a dedicated vector data processing semiconductor. In March the company unveiled an AI Storage Strategy to integrate external knowledge, long-term memory, and working memory. Seahorse received Korea’s top-grade GS software certification in January and Seahorse Cloud was launched as a SaaS offering in March. Dnotitia describes VDPU as a purpose-built chip for accelerating vector data search and processing and is preparing it for commercialization. The company plans to use its recent Series A proceeds to improve cloud and on‑premises products, commercialize VDPU, expand globally, and hire key talent. Dnotitia is also moving forward with IPO preparations, naming Korea Investment & Securities and Shinhan Securities as joint lead managers.

    Q-Stem is a biotechnology startup founded by City University of Hong Kong professor Ban Ki-won that applies hiPSC technology to combat hair loss. The company isolates dermal papilla cells differentiated from hiPSCs, then extracts and commercializes the growth factors these cells secrete, which are critical to hair follicle regeneration and maintenance. Research cited by the firm links reduced growth-factor secretion from aging papilla cells to alopecia, underpinning Q-Stem’s product rationale. It has already established a mass-production process for papilla cell culture fluid and is conducting parallel safety assessments. Commercial rollout will begin with functional cosmetics produced through contract manufacturing, with plans to build in-house production capabilities later. The roadmap also includes co-development and testing with domestic and international manufacturers and an expanded product lineup for broader hair-loss solutions. The KRW 2.2 billion seed financing provides the capital to refine its papilla-cell-derived raw-material platform and accelerate these commercialization efforts.
