Overview
Inversion builds autonomous re-entry vehicles that store cargo in orbit and re-enter the atmosphere on-demand to deliver to remote and hard-to-reach locations. The company is using its Series A proceeds to scale operations and build Arc, its next-generation autonomous re-entry vehicle. Inversion says its vehicles can deliver goods in less than an hour with precision within 20 feet (6 meters). The team has developed hardware and software capabilities in-house and has scored support from the Department of Defense and other strategic partners. Inversion also achieved FAA Part 450 approval for its Ray re-entry vehicle, which is slated to launch on SpaceX’s Falcon 9 Transporter-12 rideshare. The company is based in Los Angeles and positions space-enabled cargo delivery as a new pillar alongside connectivity and Earth observation. Inversion Space is building the Arc (autonomous reentry capsule), a reusable vehicle the company says can autonomously land nearly anywhere on Earth with football-field-sized accuracy and deliver on the order of hundreds of pounds of cargo. The startup emphasizes that the product’s value is realized on the ground—accuracy, access, and landing survivability are primary design focuses. Inversion plans a full-scale Arc demonstration mission as soon as 2026 and will first launch a subscale pathfinder called Ray on a SpaceX Transporter-12 rideshare in October (that subscale will not demonstrate the precision delivery tech). The three-year-old, Los Angeles-based company has been awarded a $71 million STRATFI agreement from SpaceWERX to accelerate development and transition the tech toward operational use. Inversion has been tight-lipped about other architecture details, pricing, and how quickly customers could summon an Arc from orbit. The STRATFI awards are intended to help startups bridge the ‘valley of death’ between R&D and operational deployment.
